Which is the movie that starts out with a kid witnessing a murder on some road in the middle of dense trees? Is it The Witness?

    Reworking an old project

I had a post-apocalyptic idea for a while now, wrote about 70 pages of something, but wasn't happy with the results. So, I said fuck it, started over with zombies. I always loved the genre, but never tackled it. Now I always want my zombie flicks to be dark, where no one is safe, so that's how...

Well, apparently the Breaking Bad pilot script is how it should be done. http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~ina22/splaylib/Screenplay-Breaking_Bad-Pilot.PDF

That's right huh? What are you gonna do, fade into a black screen? START with "OVER BLACK" and go from there.

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

I want this to be bittersweet and pretty realistic. 12 people will more than likely let someone off the hook if they can pptentially gain something from it. That’s the entire strategy of the defense - reminding he jury that their client is guilty in some regard but the greater good outweighs that.

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

I wrote out the opening statements, I think I'm missing some of the procedural stuff but let me know what you guys think. I'm writing from the prosecution point of view, and they don't have all of the evidence yet as someone will come forward with additional information. Yes, this is similar to...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

That’s a good idea and I’ve reached out to a couple different lawyers but haven’t heard anything back yet. I have a slow day a work today, so I’ll try to knock out the first 20 pages or so and see what’s what. I think by then, I should be entering the court room for the first time.

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Essentially. But flashbacks will take the place of most testimony. Imagine he lawyer asking the witness a question, they start speaking and then fade to another scene but with VO, then the characters on screen begin to speak. This will be reversed when the testimony wraps. I have bits and...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Yup that’s it. In my story, a company named New Life has found a way to bring a person back to life within 48 hours of initial death. There are rules, obviously. The tech keeps them alive, this is important. The misconduct comes in the form of someone “switching off” the tech to avoid a...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

The opening that I posted was just the lawyers finding out they have a case, but I might scratch that and tackle this from the defense side of things. This will get as involved as A Few Good Men did in their courtroom scenes. Then I have the sci-fi element, which is pretty detailed. The concept...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Fair enough. I'm only going to introduce the charges, and then fast forward to a couple of interviews between the defense and client and go directly to the trial. I don't want to bore anyone with the uninteresting stuff. Remember, the testimonies are going to be told via flashbacks.

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Well, I’ve read A Few Good Men’s screenplay multiple times. I need to check out the others. Luckily I know how to be long winded in terms of speaking, so writing for a lawyer just feels right. Since you’re a lawyer, can I pick your brain a little bit? I’ve done a lot of research, but I’m...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Thanks for the suggestions and I’m going to be watching some court stuff this weekend. I’m going to stick with a civil case, that way the inner workings of New Life will come out and will ultimately lead to criminal charges against one particular person. EDIT: in a civil suit, testimony...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Thanks for the advice. I’m ignorant to a lot of this stuff and I’m trying to research what I can as I move along. Here is what I’m trying to get across, without getting into details on what exactly the case is. A new employee at the company New Life Inc. witnessed some serious misconduct -...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

I edited my response to you since you posted this, by the way. Yea, I get what you're saying. I need to re-word that or come up with something else. I know this exchange is exposition heavy, but in the context of the scene, I think it works. The reason why these guys are so taken aback by the...

    Writing a Courtroom Drama

Thanks for checking it out. How does the quick dialogue work for you? I thought the same thing about the FDA and actually emailed their Medical Device Complaints Department. They responded back saying "The FDA does not get involved in legal matters." My original plan was to have these guys be...
