film-school New York Film Academy - Online Workshops

I'm going to go against the grain with the others on this topic. There are some things on a film set that will take you a decade to learn the right way... on top of that, I think it's unlikely, you're going to get the opportunity to learn a lot of that stuff without knowing some of the basics...

    acting cgi actors!

Didn't Eddie Murphy do that in some film?

film-school New York Film Academy - Online Workshops

All but one of the NYFA grads/staff I've worked with from that place has been useless. Most shoots would have gone better if they didn't turn up or called in sick. It's difficult to explain, but their students seem to have a level of entitlement that you just don't see anywhere else. I can only...

    Practice makes Perfect???

    > Primarily camera work? Get someone else to handle the camera. It's the only way I can get good images to work with ;)

    pre-production Possible Donation Thingy????

Yeah, it wasn't all marketing. A bunch of it was strategic planning, sales and staff/client management. The one thing I cannot stress enough. Think of it from your potential clients' perspective. It doesn't matter that you think, it matters what they think. Take a look at crowdfunding...

    pre-production Possible Donation Thingy????

If that's why will motivate other filmmakers to hand over their cash, then that's the why. If it won't get them to hand over their money, then it's your wishful thinking and not their "why". Why's can be status, duty, opportunity, value proposal, obligation, peer pressure, entertainment value...

campaign Trailer for my new feature currently in Post-Production!

I can't tell if I hate it or love it.... I hate monster type films but this one looks interesting. Keep up the good work.

    financing Film funding

Get A Job It really is the best advice I can give you. Better return on time investment than any other method. It'll also teach you to be more responsible with money when you have to earn it first. Shorts are a way to get practice and showcase your work. Consider it an investment in yourself.

directing Film Festivals Need More Diversity Categories - yes or no?

I'm not a big fan of diversity to start with. If you did a category for me (fat and white) I'd probably punch you in the face. In all seriousness, unless you're talking a huge festival, I think those kinds of things are more suitable as a theme for a festival, more than categories within...

    pre-production Possible Donation Thingy????

Most of the time this is a fools errand, but if you want a way to do it... Work out the answer to the "Why would they donate?" question and appeal to their why. Why a fools errand? Most people won't watch a short film for free given the opportunity. It's a harder task to get them to pay for the...

software Best Practices for organizing multiple video/audio tracks on timeline?

It wasn't really great at doing this last time I used Premiere, but one of the better ways is to lay the footage for each scene on its own timeline. Trim the crap and use it that timeline as a source for your edit timeline. It allows you to shuttle through footage fast and let you order it in a...

marketing Dear All! Could you please advise me any source for information about film marketing and advertisement? ( For USA market) Thanks!

That's the problem ain't it. You don't know what you don't know. I went through a bunch of the stuff on there a while back and I've read what limited books are available on Amazon for film business/finance. About the best of the free information that I saw came from Stephen Follows. Most of it...

Go and take a look at www.filmspecific.com I believe the lass who runs that web site used to be a film distribution person.

    directing Handling Nudity

Oh My God. If that happened on any of my sets, where a cast or crew took photos without permission, I'd like to think I'd pick them up by the scruff of their neck and throw them out. An open set doesn't mean people can be unprofessional.

    directing Handling Nudity

From memory, yes. I have directed one and crewed another. One with implied nudity for a few actors and another shoot where 3 or 4 of the girls were on display. So it's not so much a lot of experience. There may have been another one or two that I don't remember. I found the trick is to over...
