    Recording audio

for probably about 8-15$ you could go the poor man's boom-pole route: get one of those 6inch or so long pc mics for about 6$ at Walmart, a pvc pipe (1inch diameter), cut to a 5ft section, and 2 2.5ft sections, some connectors so you can connect the pieces if you need the full 10ft, that's about...

cinematography Shooting in a moving car

I started a thread a few days ago about the Steddiepod, I've actually tried sitting in the passenger seat with this device standing up, just gotta plant your feet on two of it's legs to secure it to the floor, and it makes a quite decent in-car stabilization device. However, you would probably...

Sony HD 1000u camcorder, more to offer than I thought...

Hey no problem, I wasn't upset or anything, we all brought some good points to the table for consideration, this was actually quite constructive! But we are a bit off topic, lol! Maybe we should see about some of this being moved to a new thread "To minidv or not to minidv, that is the question"...

Sony HD 1000u camcorder, more to offer than I thought...

I would recommend minidv over any camera that sports a built-in hard drive, but not ones that sport removable harddrives, which are the ones I pointed out to be very very pricey. Sony seems to be the most keen on keeping minidv alive, and that is probably due to the fact they can sell bulk loads...

Sony HD 1000u camcorder, more to offer than I thought...

I'm really not so sure I'd say minidv is dying, it is still very popularly used, especially for its security, it is the ultimate backup, as data cannot be instantly deleted or lost like how harddrives die. Fact of the matter is, minidv is actually very highly demanded, it'll be around for quite...

Sony HD 1000u camcorder, more to offer than I thought...

Yes, it does give great quality, as long as lighting is good! The strange thing is, Sony said they made it targeting wedding videographers, yet it's really not great as a primary camera for weddings, due to the lack of control over lighting, but for indiefilming, I'd say its potential is just...

Sony HD 1000u camcorder, more to offer than I thought...

Okay, so, I have been playing around with my HD1000u camcorder a bit, wondering if it may actually have a smaller DOF, pehaps small enough for a film-like look...it does, in fact, the depth of field is small enough, you can get an extreme close-up of say...a ring being held by your fingertips...

Filming in dark environments - Which camera? (as cheap as possible)

I know the Sony Z7u is the current best minidv HD 1080p camcorder for lowlight currently on the market, and it is loaded with many controls. It's also not very big, in fact, it's right around the size of a vx2100...

    Hello, my fellow filmmakers!

Lighting is definitely at the top of the list of things we are working to improve. Hall of Wrath was actually quite an odd situation, we were actually plagued with an unusual set of complications that hindered our options for light management, most of it was linked to the issue of time and...

Invitation to students/filmmakers to make short films/clips

When would you like them in by? I have a new one on youtube, The Hall of Wrath, and have just uploaded a new version of The Kingpin's Formula. I won't be able to film anything else until a couple weeks after New Years. I am an education major and am aiming to teach film in the future, so this...

    Something About Premiere Pro

The CPU and Ram are definitely fine, Vista's good, but what about your graphics card? If you do have a sufficient graphics card, I'd say there's something wrong with the software somewhere, maybe another program conflicting, or some type of registry issue...I went through total computer chaos...

    STORY IS KING...

The sad thing is, even a lot of hollywood productions lack story, some really shouldn't even be called films, but more like special effects projects.

    Something About Premiere Pro

That could be due to lack of sufficient processing power, what is your computer made of anyway? CPU? RAM? GPU? OS?

    cinematography Why not Cameramen?

So far in my experience, I find that if you have the vision of how it should be in your mind, direct and run one of the cameras, and get the shots exactly as you wanted. This has for me been the best way to do things, as none of what I have done so far has been scripted nor storyboarded, just...

    Something About Premiere Pro

The process that moves slow that you refer to is the indexing or generating peak file for the AVI, right? That would be slower since AVI is uncompressed, while mpeg is compressed. I typically keep them as AVIs, as the less a video is compressed, the easier it is for the computer to render...
