Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

Yeah I just re-read our whole hoo-ha on the other thread where he got into it with Sonny and we stood up for Sonny. That was an interesting read. It actually makes me grateful for what I have and what little I've accomplished.. May none of us on here suffer the same fate.

Thinking about turning down studio distribution deal...

Is this that guy who went on a tour throughout the US with his movie and mainly went to colleges and videotaped comments of people who had just seen the movie? He made a lot of people mad.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Am I the only one who didn't think The Hunger Games was fantastic? It was Okay in my books - possibly a 7 out of 10. It kept my interest, but I have a few notes: I guess that's what I get for going into a movie expecting way much more...

    Microphones: Understanding The Different Types

Well, I like to think that I could get a better product with those Behringers than a fool who doesn't know what he's doing with a 2,000 Schoeps CMIT5U shotgun mic. I think it's safe to say that 80% of the sound quality (maybe even more) comes from where you place the mic - 20% from the make of...

Got my FD 17mm f4... meh..

WHEATGRINDER, I have taught you well, my son. The motion picture you shared on this thread looks just fine, But I have ingrained in your head the fact that: "ALL FOOTAGE LOOKS LIKE DOG $&%& UNTIL YOU MARRY IT UP WITH PROPER SOUND DESIGN" It's okay - this is progress. Just look at it as...

    Microphones: Understanding The Different Types

Hmm. Cardioid lav? Good luck if one of those slips around and gets pointed away from the guy's mouth. I always try to use Omni lavs anywhere. A boomed wider cardioid pencil condenser will sound good indoors. One thing I try to teach the production sound mixers on set is: It's a movie that...

editing Adding Sound and Music to your production

Cool. I'm not accusing you - don't spend too much time looking for it. @Alcove - I've had orchestra sessions that couldn't fit on a 160 channel mixboard so we had to mix them down. Predubs often take months to do before the final mix. And even then, they are still adding tracks on the dub...

    Ugh! Fundraising blues.

Can I be the "Executive Sound Designer"? Don't think I'll have much time to work on it but I can give advice and help from afar, hehehe

@Alcove Exactly. I think he might be mistaking a comment like "Yes we have over 1,900 individual SOUNDS playing back for a scene". That would make more sense.

@ray, I think in particular, the little Last of the Wind Benders kid did an especially SUCKY job. I'm sorry - but how did Spiels let him on the set?

    Super 16mm or Red Epic???

Wow, the last set I was on the DP knew the guy personally and what I said is what he told me. Weird! How many Cookes does it take to get to the center of the lollipop? The world may never know.

My kit at home is a Pro Tools HD system. Most dubbing stages use Pro Tools exclusively. Nuendo is starting to catch on, as well as Adobe Audition, but I think it's safe to say Pro Tools will be the film industry's standard for many years to come. (I hope this doesn't set off a chain of...

    Canon 60D and 600D

The quality is the same but the 60D in my experience has more ISO controls (i.e. more stops, the 600D only has 100, 200, 400, 800, etc.) The 60D has way more. Other than that, I think it's basically the same for video, though I haven't used the 60D too much - I own the 600D, though and I love...

    Third lense

Hmm. I hear a lot of good things about the Sigma 10-20 but I don't know how it does in video mode. It only costs around 400 or so (I think). It might look the same as your kit lens. I'd go with Gonzo's advice. You're not going to find a quality wide angle for less than $800.

    Super 16mm or Red Epic???

You can ALWAYS fix it in post. You can fix anything in post. Fixing things in post is the easiest thing to do. Especially sound. kidding
