    Tascam DR-70D vs Tascam DR-680 mk1 vs Tascam DR-680 mk2 vs Zoom F8

Not really. Your SD MM-1 is just a single channel mic pre-amp. The 552 is a full 5 channel field mixer with integrated (stereo) recording. Last time I looked, a 552 had a list price around $4k. G

    Tascam DR-70D vs Tascam DR-680 mk1 vs Tascam DR-680 mk2 vs Zoom F8

That's a strange budget which allows for a high-end pro field mixer but only a consumer grade recorder. Not sure I want to ask what mics you'll be using. :) G

    Tascam DR-70D vs Tascam DR-680 mk1 vs Tascam DR-680 mk2 vs Zoom F8

Sweetie is correct. Some of the improved features of the F8 over the others won't make much difference with a 552 in front but some of them will. TC being a very good example, even if the production is not using TC! Go for the F8, it's a no-brainer compared to the other units, considering...

    What's the difference?

I would say that Project Development Schedule covers everything; From the development phase (before pre-prod) to the marketing and distribution phase (after post-prod) and up to release. Production Schedule based on script is almost certainly the same as shooting schedule, although I have seen...

    House of Screaming Death (2016)

Presumably it hasn't yet entered the audio post phase? Ignoring this question though, a piece of advice: Try to get in the habit of starting your time-code, for the FFOA (First Frame of Action), at 01:00:00:00, not at 00:00:00:00! This is expected professional practise and it's expected because...

story Trying to write a story that is 'underbudget' in this case.

Yes, he is right, normal people living a normal life, change locations. If you don't want your characters to change locations then the ONLY way of doing that is to create a "contrived" situation which does not allow them to change locations. You can do this plausibly or implausibly! In the...

    What kit should I get?...

As I mentioned in my final paragraph, providing the events you're talking about are suitably dramatic, then audiences will forgive poor/very poor sound in a doco. Spontaneity on it's own would not generally be enough to qualify as "suitably dramatic" though! I think you are probably going to...

    What kit should I get?...

Along with who your docos are aimed at, these are all extremely important questions for you to be thinking about Josh! If your answers are say: Friends/family, YouTube and average amateur home video quality or marginally better, then in some or possibly most situations you will probably get away...

Advice Needed- What skills are required?

Not sure I can agree with this. 1. While I agree that a no/nano budget director would have to know more than a Hollywood director in terms of having the knowledge to physically fulfil many/most of the additional roles, there's a lot of other knowledge the Hollywood director needs which the...

    New filming need legitimate advice

Yes, that is exactly "the thing". We realise you never said that all you wanted to shoot was just video but the point you seem to be missing is that you have effectively stated that you want to shoot amazing video with crappy sound! You are talking about 4k cameras, a format/resolution which is...

    New filming need legitimate advice

So why are you only interested in one of the least significant pieces of equipment in filmmaking then? For the same reason they use production sound teams with near on $100k of sound equipment and 30 or more people in the audio post-production team with probably well over $20m worth of...

    New filming need legitimate advice

There are many dozens of pieces of hardware and software required for filmmaking and many hundreds of choices/alternatives. There are also hundreds of more choices in how to use that hardware and software in order to make a watchable film, not to mention all the choices not directly linked to...

    archived-videos My 2nd short film- "Assassin"- BMPC4k

    1. It's always nice to have better quality equipment. Although, you have to remember that as equipment quality increases so the skill level of those operating it also needs to increase, to fully realise the potential of that equipment. 2. There are technical weaknesses in the audio on your...

When Is CGI going to go away

I'm with you on this one. I don't think James Cameron should have made Avatar until he could actually afford to go and film it on Pandora! And preferably all in a single unedited shot with a hand cranked camera. :) G

    Experienced Executive Producer Needed

Sorry for butting in again but this is interesting. As far as I can see, the only way you could not get what sweetie (I and others) are saying is without any understanding/concept of "risk". I find this interesting because either I'm missing some really fundamental understanding or because there...

Which movie shall one make first?

What have the origins and a 100% accurate definition of art got to do with filmmaking? If you are making films for others to watch, then their definition of art is what you have to work with. If you are making films just for yourself to watch, you can use any definition of art you want...

Which movie shall one make first?

Absolutely it is and that's the point you seem to be missing because ... Only a fool would quote something as fact which patently is not a fact and just repeating that your opinion is fact does NOT make it a fact!! The fact is, that almost EVERYONE on earth can define art (and religion). I...

    Experienced Executive Producer Needed

Would that be a lot of untried "people"? If on the other hand you surrounded yourself with all experienced pros, that would certainly improve your odds considerably but an untried director is still a limiting factor. How different is it to having an experienced filmmaking team with no director...

    Experienced Executive Producer Needed

Of course it does! Can someone who has never played a violin do a great job giving a violin recital or are you more likely to get a great job from a professional violinist? What about an untrained, untried brain surgeon or aircraft mechanic, how about a racing driver who has never even driven a...
