Definitely a bad idea to run internet/games on your editing machine. I know most people only have one machine and it can be expensive to buy two high tech machines if you want to do both but it really is the best option!

Shouldn't be a problem as far as I know Clive. DVCAM footage is actually identical to DV footage. The naming difference is a sony convention and refers to recording medium rather than recording format.

If you want to learn the avid interface liquid isn't the best option. Liquid was recently acquired by Avid and is doesn't quite fit with the rest of Avids paradigm in terms of workflow. Adobe Premiere Pro is good software. It seems to be hit and miss though. Some people never have problems...

To record uncompressed HD you will need a capture card (very expensive) and a raid array. Not an inexpensive proposition and not something you can take 'on the move'. That said, if you have the means - uncompressed HD would kick arse. :)

Production values will get you closest to a 'film look'. Good lighting, compositing etc. I know people say this all the time but it really is true. After that some good color correction can bring out the best in your already great footage :)
