    tascam dr100 question

You have everything correct. The DR-100, like the Zoom H4 (and H4n) have preamps with gain more designed for live music recording than recording dialog for film. Typically, for film, the desired level is around -20 with peaks hitting around -12 to -9. My guess is with the gain set to high, and...

editing After effects / editor needed (Atlanta)

Gotcha, and yup, looks like netherworld stuff. While my calendar won't support the full project, if your editor can cut the 2-3 minute PSA, I'd take on the audio post for that.

editing After effects / editor needed (Atlanta)

Bruce, I'm in Atlanta. Is principal photography complete? From the sound of it you haven't shot the thing yet, so no need for a editor until the footage is in the can.

    editing Labeling audio tracks

No, Wave Agent allows no editing other than splitting multi-track files into mono tracks, or combining mono tracks into multi-track files. Don't trim. That's extra work that's not needed. Sync to your video files, and let the editing software ignore what's not in the edit path.

    editing Labeling audio tracks

In Wave Agent, import your stack of sound files, double click on the first while wearing headphones, listen to the call, type the info in the fields, hit save. Double click the next sound file, repeat above until you're done with the stack. Then select all the files and hit the rename button...

    editing Labeling audio tracks

You're on the right path. There is a free software from Sound Devices called Wave Agent which makes auditioning and renaming sound files pretty straightforward.

cinematography Using different DSLRs on same project

If you are using similar profiles, color balance, ISO, and exposures my guess would be that after color matching the differences would be minimal. However, if you are considering this for multi-camera shots, be aware that using 2 cameras at the same time is not twice as difficult, it's 10 times...

    cardioid mic

The lobe 180 degrees from the face of the mic is an unavoidable attribute of the design of hypers, it has no practical use but must be considered when determining microphone placement

    cardioid mic

carioid mics have somewhat limited use in production sound for film. While the pattern is more directional than an omni, it is typically too wide for most shots and tends to pick up too much off axis sounds. Perhaps for walla groups, or crowd sounds, and some ambient sounds, it would work...

editing Maya 3d into After Effects

? How are going to composite without importing the footage? You need a render with either an alpha channel (which is what I would recommend since it provides cleaner edges without any halo), or a color background for keying. The most difficult part is following camera moves which will require...

Looks like Lens Baby. I got tired of it after a second or two, music aside.

    sennheiser lav Question

This also comes from knowing how your gear behaves in real-world situations. My G3s typically can run 4+ hours on the two AAs before dropping signal strength. Since on most sets I'm on, we rarely go more than 3 hours from wiring the talent to a meal break, costume change, or scene change, I...

    New to writing

Put it down on paper. Until you have it in black and white you really can't see it. Here are some ideas: Describe the location, the time of day, the season, inside, outside, a house, a business, a street, a pasture.... Describe the character: Age, short, tall, weight, age, ethnicity...

    Question about hiring crew.

When you get to the point where you don't feel like this, you are done learning and growing. There has not been a project yet that I've worked on that I did not come out the other end thinking I could have done something better. That's the nature of developing skills. Repeat those things that...

cinematography when using a gree screen...

The screen must be lit separately from the talent, typically either from overhead with flags, or from each side of the screen, or preferably, both. Place the talent far enough forward of the screen to reduce or prevent talent lighting from throwing shadows on the screen. I use the rgb...
