Getting big-name actors, getting my shit made, timing, business, and other things.

My suggestion is that you might consider writing some shorts or other material that you are less attached to. It doesn't matter if your new material isn't as brilliant as the 4 year masterpiece. Successful writers and artists are prolific. They have enough confidence to keep generating new...

    My First Casting Call

    - you may want to wait on videotaping performances until the first callback. There is no point in videotaping people that you know at first impression will not make the cut. It just wastes time. - SAG actors require sign in sheets. SAG recently lowered their rates to 100/day for low budget...

How "in charge" are you as the Director?

As usual I agree with nearly everything Clive says. In addition I'll say that your film is 100% poised for doom or success in the casting and crew hiring. I think as director you should always attempt to hire people more experienced than you by 2-10 years. You want them to teach you instead...

    Budget Camra,, Questons

My theory is that it's better to rent vs. buy cameras, as you can rent a better one for $450 than buy. The technology changes so fast that your new camera will be overtaken by newer models in 12-18 months. As a student you can probably rent gear for a greatly reduced price.

    Comedy script "must have's"

Comedy is often just brutal honesty that you think you don't want to hear but then you hear it and think, "wow I wish I had the *lls to say that".

    Directing a HD shoot!

Would love to see "No Place"! But unfortunately not wired for PAL here. I don't want to do a VHS conversion and have the NTSC output be substandard.. as I'm trying to see something nice off of Varicam I am tempted to start a pool on this board to fund an NTSC master (what are the costs, about...

HD shot on Varicam Here is something else off topic: I am shooting Varicam in October and was looking for a film on DVD that I could buy now, from Amazon, that was shot on Varicam, with well-done cinematography.

    Directing a HD shoot!

Protocol depends on the set, some crews expect different things, and if there's no DAT deck then don't really need to call "speed" In Seattle the crew I worked with goes: Director/DP block the shots DP works with lighting crew to set up the shot Director goes *somewhere else* with the actors...

Indietalk is right, get a good AD, they can show you all that stuff. Only way to really learn is to do it. Your job at this stage is to hire the right team for the project (in addition to having a good script of course  ) and to absorb a bit of their knowledge/experience..

    MA in Creative Studies (Film)

Hi there By coincidence today I was looking for an expert on Kubrick's life. I discovered that the academics at the name schools (Yale, etc.) don't seem to dwell overly much on contemporary wide-release film. The ones I read about specialize in more historical studies of early days of film...

    Breakdown software

Sunfrog Film Scheduling will do an auto-breakdown by importing from final draft. My personal opinion is that no auto-breakdown will be 100% accurate - it must be checked and updated manually.
