    Script Supervisor questions

Hi, I'm still looking for a scripty for my short, and I know there are a few here who feel that that is a vital position which should be paid. Yet others I know feel you can find someone who isn't necessarily experienced and will work as a scripty unpaid or for low pay and still do a good job...

    Location sound equipment

What kind of equipment/expertise can I expect someone to have if I can only afford between $150-200 per day?

what are your opinions on filmmakers like this guy?

IMDB is a user-submitted database. Anyone can contribute. I am a regular contributor, usually adding info or making corrections on people I know or projects I'm familiar with. There are tons of projects people have made or worked on that are not in IMDB. Not every filmmaker submits their...

    Location sound equipment

No worries about me getting caught up in obsessing about gear - that's so not me! I just want to have an idea of what to expect because I just want to hire someone who's got everything we need and not have to rent too much additional stuff. I want to ask intelligent questions and know what is...

    Location sound equipment

What equipment should I expect a location sound recordist to have? And what format is best for editable tracks to input into Avid and sync with picture? I want someone who does sound and also operates the boom, so they need the kind of equip't they carry/wear. Also, should I rely on that...

Staying in contact w/ crew...online forumish type thing?

Not true. I would ask first if everyone in your crew is on Facebook. Lots of folks I know are emphatically not interested in having a FB account. It's such a timesuck. What the heck is Google Wave? Not heard of this before, I'll have to check it out. Most people I know utilize Google Docs...

Staying in contact w/ crew...online forumish type thing?

People who don't have Gmail accounts can still access items on Google Docs. Just make it accessible with a link. No one needs to login that way. You have a few choices when you set up a document on Google Docs. All you need after you've created or uploaded the document is to choose: Share >...

The first thing to do after actors are cast...

Hi, yes, all the other stuff is covered - I just wanted to know about any paperwork for actors before I send them the script - this might sound silly, but is an NDA needed?

The first thing to do after actors are cast...

To which thread are you referring? I don't mind hearing anything that sounds legal, I want to know. Basically I'd like to know what forms I should give them - is there anything more binding or official than the usual Actos' Release form - like an agreement - that would apply to non-SAG...

The first thing to do after actors are cast...

I've chosen my actors and they've all accepted, and are excited about the project. What do I need to do before sending them the full script? Anything besides getting releases? Should I give them any other kind of agreements to sign? They know the positions will be unpaid, but if I can swing...

    Efficient Callbacks

The actors I chose had most of their sides memorized for the auditions, which indicated to me that they would make an effort to learn it for the shoot. I feel that they don't need to memorize everything beforehand, just know it well enough that they can review it before the scenes and get it right.

    Too Much for a Short?

Recommended reading: Writing Short Films by Linda Cowgill. She drives home the point that structure for a short is really different from how a feature can be structured. Certain elements need to happen or be revealed right away - there's no time for exploring. Very helpful book!

    preproduction -> screenpaly feedback loop

I had a very small role in my script, with just a few lines. I added some more dialogue for the actors to use at the auditions. I liked it so much I kept it in the script. I'm also considering adding a short scene so I can use another one of the actors I auditioned for a different role - he's...

    Efficient Callbacks

Okay, here's how the callbacks went. I had my Consulting Producer with me, thankfully, and so she let people in, etc. (at the first auditions I got some actors I know to serve as Readers and sign people in, etc. - I gave them lunch money and a Metrocard for their work, and also considered them...

Just wondering why you decided on that title, since Ron Howard's Night Shift is so well-known.

    Is this marketable?

I would suppose there is a way to research the marketing that was done for specific films. You might want to look at Secretary with Maggie Gyllenhaal, which was about sadomasochism and got a bunch of awards.
