    "adapting" a novel

not NOT, EVER, under any circumstances mention Avatar in any of my posts ever again. Avatar is a slap in the face to anyone who takes film seriously. I am thoroughly disgusted that this movie recieve any attention or nominations for anything other than fx. Fuck Avatar. Now, some serious tips...

    "adapting" a novel

I had some questions about using ideas from a book. Obviously, if I wanted to do a direct interpretation I would have to buy film rights. But what if I made a story inspired by, or loosely based around the original story? Would I have to buy rights or provide credit to the author? Where do you...

archived-videos Bummer Summer Trailer - Feature Narrative - Cinequest

i respectfully disagree with m1chae1, i liked the opening shot. there's something about successfully capturing openness/nothingness/space that really speaks to me. it definitely symbolizes a 'bummer summer' in my eyes. a beautiful bummer! i thought all of the photography was great. (although i...

archived-videos Robot and Ghost (Shot on RED)

i think it just goes to show: even if you have a RED, you can still make a shitty movie. keep that in mind, kids. but m1chae1 is right, there is some potential. but i think it makes more sense to work on that before you spend money on a project like this one.

    Tripod?

:/ i'm still a n00b at some of this stuff. but that's what i meant to say in the edit, so at least i corrected myself this time! actually, every time i see pans or steady cam shots or whatever, i think about how i wish i could have get like a super steady hand held shot, without necessariy...

    Tripod?

good tips, thanks. can anyone vouge for a tripod dolly? or would a steady cam of some sorts be better for camera movement? or is it really just up to preference? edit: i guess the real question is, if i chose to have a dolly shot, is using a tripod dolly a practical solution? as much as any...

    Tripod?

I'm looking for a tripod to pair with my canon t1i (that i use for both photography and video). What are the real differences between a $12 tripod and a$1200 tripod? What kind of features should i be looking for?

what is it like pursuing a career as a film director?

haha not a very good example.. avatar and spider-man both have HORRIBLE stories. avatar actually contradicts your point, it can be a 'good' movie because they have insane specially effects that people nut all over then it has a 3rd grade story. lame. Tarantino, now he is a story teller. and...

    BORING AND AVERAGE

talentville none of those details matter because i'm not asking anyone to make a specific situation for this one guy, i was looking for general situations tht EVERYone has experienced or can relate to. but forget about it, i'm just going to figure it out on my own.

    BORING AND AVERAGE

good tips, but those are the things I already know. I just recently made some realizations in writing and story telling and characters (for a while I was obsessed with the filmmakers that said fuck story and just made a movie whatever they wanted it to be. which is cool, but that's not the kind...

    BORING AND AVERAGE

I'm working on a character right now.. In the beginning of the story he is pretty much the epitomy, a complete cliche, of what is the most boring and average american life. He is a 20 something white male in Ohio who works as a mail man. So my question to you is.. What are your ideas of boring...
