    Need new software

Am I wrong?...it looks like Celtx is hosted on a server over the internet, as opposed to software based on your PC/Mac. If that's the case, I would be bothered storing my work elsewhere besides my computer.

    Is it any good?

    Need new software

Problem: My computer recently died (10 years old!). Solution: I'm buying a new one ... but I need a new screenwriting program :( I've always used the free Sophocles Beta version circa 2008, it worked terrific. I have a copy on flashdrive, but as far as I know you can't install it onto new...

    logline loglines wtf

Actually, I look at it this way: If you can't tell your story in one or two sentences ... you either don't know your story or don't have one.

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

I guess my post went mostly unnoticed, but I listed why you would want to use adverbs at times. As a rule, you will want to have a preference for concrete words. But if that's all you use, your "voice" will be monotone.

Jessica Alba: "Good actors never use the script"

I thought about this some more, and here is the thing that sticks out to me most: So the obvious question is: Why is she on board with a script that she doesn't think is amazing? Logical guess: Agent: "Jessica, yeah, you've played this stereotypical role before, but they're willing to pay...

Jessica Alba: "Good actors never use the script"

Pretty don't act. Her job is to look good while playing simple roles that speak for themselves. I doubt you've ever seen her play a very deep character. Maybe that's why she believes this... all the roles she plays are pretty simple. Maybe when the stories are that easy, there isn't much in...

Jessica Alba: "Good actors never use the script"

No wonder she's such a bad actress.

action Overusing words in action lines - "look" "sit"

As a rule I think you will want concrete "as often as possible", but to say you should never have adverbs or adjectives is kind of a ridiculous thesis IMO. I like to pay attention to the rhythm in the syntax construction, so often times when writing something I'll need to add or delete words or...

    Historical Accuracy

Thanks everyone for your replies, you've really been a big help, I'm grateful. Well, here's what I want to do right now. I'd like to hear if you think this works or not. 1. The backstory will take place in 1982-1983. 2. The present narrative will begin around 2003, and the ages will still be...

    Historical Accuracy

It's not that as much as I just want the story to be as good as possible. I'm not a stickler for exact detail as long as the story is told in a way that keeps to the spirit of the truth. But there are limits to everything, and I don't want to cross those, write a fantastic script and then hear...

    Historical Accuracy

I have considered this option, too, and do see some merit to it. Does anyone else like this idea, or think it's bunk? I realize it's my script, but I do have to cater to the always critical audience. :)

    Historical Accuracy

I was lumping that in with the post 9/11 stuff. :) I'm only trying to create the proper setting for the story. So it's not a movie "about the economic crisis". It's just the setting.

Just want to add, thanks for all of your feedback so far. I don't wanna litter this thread with a reply to every single suggestion, but I'm mulling all of it over. Hope I don't sound like a jerk when someone makes a suggestion and I say I don't think it would work, I really do appreciate all of...

    Historical Accuracy

You make a good point about the post 9-11 stuff, but the others are all insignificant. I don't think anyone watching a film in the next couple of years is going to care about the Space Shuttle Columbia, for instance, unless the movie is specifically about the Space Shuttle Columbia. But then...

    Historical Accuracy

I don't think it must take place in any specific year. I want it to feel like it could be current without stating the exact date. I'm just attracted to the idea of it taking place during bad economic/social/political times. That would implicitly make it more current (now or last couple of...

In order to write the best / most effective story, then yes that is correct.

    Historical Accuracy

^^^This. My only concern is how to get around ambiguity in the character intros and scene descriptions. On film, the audience only sees what it sees. Put a name actress in their who is relatively younger and I don't think it matters. But, in the script how would you get around not mentioning...

    Historical Accuracy

The time-frame is 1982-1983, I'm not reenacting a true story, but it's based on events. I think of it this way, if I want to have a WWII story, it doesn't have to be based on any exact historical battle. It can be fiction, and it can occur anytime between 1939-1945, but you can't have it happen...

    Historical Accuracy

I listed these above: 1. The design of one of the characters requires her to be younger. (can't change character design without changing the story) 2. There are many progessive social and religious themes in the story, so if you have a film with 40 year old women you will get one audience, and...
