top-list Top 10 Documentaries on Making Movies

I just finished watching The Cutting Edge, and I thought it was an amazing insight. It's a shame that editors aren't that well known in the public eye, as it's clear that those in the industry, and especially the directors they collaborate with, hold them in the highest esteem. Watching some of...

Thoughts on the minimalist Approach to Website for independent film

I'm no expert, but one thing I would add is that on the poster (which is excellent, as others have said) the font looks quite cool, works really well with the illustration and feel of the piece as a whole. However, it looks pretty amateurish as the header. I think that in black and white it...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Been meaning to watch this for awhile as my brother picked up a cheap DVD copy, and that glowing review means it might come sooner rather than later! As for me, haven't had time to watch a film lately  hopefully this weekend I'll change that!

    Canon 550D

Thanks for the reply skmedia. I have seen about Magic Lantern, and it looks intriguing, although I am always a bit wary about installing stuff like that on something I'm unfamiliar with. I have heard good things but similarly I've heard that it doesn't totally get rid of audio issues but...

    Canon 550D

Hey, thanks for the quick reply :) yeah, the £600 option includes a Canon 18-55mm lens kit, but you think I'd be better off buying the camera cheaper then shopping around for a few lenses? Without the lens kit I'm pretty sure I can find it for around £500. As far as a separate recorder goes...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Saw the new Transformers the other night, not too shabby. Rosie Huntington-Whitely is a pretty poor actress but I suppose she did the job, pacing was a lot better than the second one, and the plot was fairly simple. A big improvement, and the film didn't try and be something it isn't. As far as...

    Canon 550D

Hi guys, I'm looking into a first time video camera and I was considering the Canon 550D. I'm currently a uni student (not a film student though) so for the next year I'd mostly be doing shorts and music videos for a few bands I know, although I will then be looking into features and may well...

    Muzzle Flash

This is also a good tut- http://revision3.com/filmriot/newyork Although I think a good solution might be to shoot day-for-night, like ZenSteve suggested for that scene if the effects prove too tricky

    Hey guys!

Hi there everyone, my name's Jamie and I'm a writer and aspiring director from Manchester. I'm about to go into my 3rd year of university, studying law, but film is what I've always wanted to do and I've decided it's finally time to step up and do something about it! I don't have any experience...
