    Producing companies contact mails?

Quarry, what is your pedigree? Have you produced anything that has made money? If not, MDM is right, you are fighting an uphill battle. Just to give some perspective: I am repped by an L.A. manager who used to be a development executive for Sony Pictures. My scripts have garnered interest...

    Been Sued?

Just FYI, most legitimate festivals require you to "sign" an agreement stating you have permission to use any copyrighted material used in your film. If you lie to them and are found out, you have just forfeited any chance of being accepted into the festival, along with your entry fee. Chances...

    Writing a Thriller

You're right, APE, but I'm not missing the point. My point is that not all of us need that bigger hit every time out. But you and harmonica are both correct that, by and large, audiences have grown impatient. Story and character are suffering as a result, IMO, except in some independent...

    Suspense vs surprise

Yes, it was Hitchcock. I own this book and have read it about a dozen times over the past 25 years. Everything in it is great -- a master interviewed by a master.

    Writing a Thriller

Why do we have to be "blown away" every time?!! WTF happened to just listening to a story? Audiences today are like f**king crackheads -- they need a little more each time to reach the same high. It's sad and depressing. And, trust me, if you'd been around the past four decades, you'd...

    Tarantino Vs. Tarantino

How the heck did I ever miss this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6MUbRZSg80 Shades of nearly every film he's made since. (Last reel was lost in a fire, btw)

    Writing a Thriller

You sound exactly like my manager. Personally, if I have to sit through another insipid "end-of-the-world" thriller, I think I'd rather the world just end and get it over with. But you are 100% right, harmonica. Most "attention-span-of-a-chimpanzee" Americans want big, bigger, biggest!

I doesn't. I was curious about that as well.

    Feature Length Screenplay?

If you're using Final Draft software, it has a reformatting function that will respace the lines, not noticeably, so that it will add extra pages without having to pad the text. Probably other software does the same thing, too.

I'm not usually much for watching ads, but must admit this is pretty cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuDN2bCIyus and the making of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnzlri_mEYQ

That was what I meant by "spreader". Polecat is a much cooler name, though. Do we use that term in the States? :hmm:

Ha! Great quote! And don't forget Gus Van Sant (ahem, with whom I once worked...for one day).

    lighting Lighting from above

I don't know your level of experience, so apologies if these are obvious... If the ceiling is white, I would bounce the lights off of it. If it isn't, I would affix foamcore or a bounce card to it. If the light needs to be hard, use a shiny reflector. If you absolutely must hang a fixture...

    Soderbergh Retires

Heh, I'm with Nick. Remember when Sean Penn announced his retirement from acting? I think it was about 20 movies ago or so. As for Soderbergh, if he really does stop making films, I for one will miss him. One of very few directors actually making films that target adult audiences. A dying...
