archived-videos The Foreign Exchange (my second short)

"Hey Haagen Dazs bitch... it's hammer time." Okay, this made me laugh. Could have used more motivation on the killer's part. You might have shown him in the beginning, and given all of them some reason to be in the school. Also the staging was a little silly, cheesy. Stoner break in the...

    My Atlantis epic tragedy

I'm relieved that the mass murdering rapist isn't the hero. Problem is these heinous crimes are not given the proper weight and are casually listed as background. Look at the opening to Conan the Barbarian. That's a similar feeling story (at that point).

Not one character. Watch the beginning of Saving Private Ryan. What do we see? Tom Hanks is set up as the character to follow, and experience the D-Day battle from his point of view. Without that, it's just sound and fury... signifying nothing.

It was competently filmed and creative. I would like it if you took the concept to the next level. The only part he's trying to do something in particular is with the girl, and that is too short of an episode. It could be restructured around going after the girl in all sorts of settings...

    My Atlantis epic tragedy

I read the first few pages. Two things stuck out. 1. You change narrators. First guy is actually providing some relevant background. Second guy, Aeris, is basically giving hollow exposition. Changing narrators like that calls attention to the technique of using a narrator. All Aeris'...

    Skyline

Skyline: I didn't mind the effects. It was the look of the image that bugged me. The Red MX did not hold up well in high contrast situations (like the parking garage). This was state of the art at the time, but now hopefully the HDRx can save highlights. There is something about CMOS...

    Question regarding the Catalyst

A story can have many catalysts. Snyder is best read and then ignored, in my opinion.

    A new means of distribution?

I would think your biggest competitor is Netflix. With unlimited downloads of a giant collection of movies plus dvds and blurays -- you'd really need to have an angle to compete there. 1) You could try letting people see the first 10 minutes or so for free. 2) You could try hooking up with...

archived-videos Movie Magic - The Progress of CG

I am so unimpressed with computer graphics that call attention to themselves. What impressed me was Black Swan, where I had no idea there were computer graphics. That's what I want. Pure seamless imagery that isn't shoved in your face to justify the cost. Link to Black Swan VFX reel...

    Zombie Script Help

"I plan to start production May 31rst I'm maybe 20% done with my script " I don't know. In my universe, I start with a script that's worth filming. Then I worry about production.

editing Does H.264 REALLY come apart in post?

Yes 8 bit is actually a problem. 8 bit = 256 gradations per channel 10 bit = 1024 gradations 16 bit = 65536 gradations The difference between 256 levels of color and 65536 levels should be self-explanatory. When altering the color palette, the more information that is available, the less...

"This is hysterical and you just proved my point. You're clueless. And I'm done with this thread. " Good to see I possess the power to shut you up. Talk about "hysterical." Rand was influenced by the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union, and the extremes to which government expanded control...

archived-videos My Last Day - Short Film Shot in Boston

This was looking well shot -- but nine minutes in, and nothing much is happening. He didn't even bother to walk around the building to say goodbye to the girls. It's like, there should be more plot by then. What the hell's he trying to do? Not enough, so I gave up.
