    archived-videos Film as Competition?

I "compete" with myself in that I try to one-up my previous work on each new project. It doesn't always happen, but that's the hope anyway. Film festivals, contests and competitions have their place and serve a purpose; rarely for monetary gains, sometimes for that "stamp of approval" from...

    A Sobering Bit of Reality

Yep yep. This is pretty much where I am and where I'm at. If some notoriety finds me or one of my projects catches on with a wider audience, I won't turn down that ticket to ride. In the meanwhile, I'm just tinkering as an enthusiastic hobbyist and trying to produce work that I, and anyone...

    Trippy Imagery

Cracker, the both of us are working on "trippy" videos simultaneously. Don't think I'll be going down the fractal rabbit hole, although those Cyriak examples are pretty wild and well done. I'm incorporating some layers of video feedback which could be considered 80s trippy? Ever mess...

    A Sobering Bit of Reality

At this point in life, I would actually rather have a house, even if it is that small. Well... OK, maybe not that small. And a job, too. A full-time job. That would be nice.

Dressing a set - any ideas?

Set design for music videos is something I can agonize, deliberate and obsess over for weeks on end and still feel there was room for improvement. If it's worth doing, isn't it worth doing well? Why does the band need to get this thing shot so hastily? Why is this a rushed project? Are they...

    RIP Harold Ramis

When I worked at a video store back in the mid- to late 90s, come February 2nd we would play Groundhog Day ALL day on the in-store TVs. SO much fun! :D I hope he and John Hughes are together enjoying what the afterlife has to offer!

Dressing a set - any ideas?

I tend to agree with this since what approach might work for a hip-hop track wouldn't necessarily be the same for a country or indie song. For me, it mostly comes down to the tone of the music and the personality of the artist. Sure, having some interesting fabric and stuff falling from above...

    Film-set tragedies

That's a tragic thing to happen to anyone. Hindsight is 20/20... but man... equipment and props can all be replaced. People can't. Leave it and get to everyone to safety. Sadness.

    >>a spec script is a blueprint. I tend to feel similarly; the trick is crafting an incredibly detailed blueprint and finding the right producer, prodco or director who can visualize the end result. ** maz, sent you a PM re: that cold open

cinematography Mixing miniature puppets with full-size humans

Sounds fun and ambitious! Music video? Short? So it'll be a combination of shrinking the greenscreened human actors to fit the miniatures and puppets and enlarging the puppets to fit human scale sets as well?

    Jodorowsky's DUNE

Likewise! I need to see El Topo at some point. I've seen Santa Sangre (twice?) and Holy Mountain, which is an incredible film. As an unabashed Lynch fan, I liked a lot of what he did with Dune, but in many ways he was a bit out of his element and probably wasn't best suited for the...
