My Film BANNED from Shooting People.org!

Your email is rife with bitter sarcasm. It is difficult FOR ME to take it seriously because of that. I'm not suggesting that it is wrong - it's just not the approach I would've taken. To each his/her own.

Need advice on drawing viewer emotion for short film

If he lucid dreams about spending time with the girl, he has already half-accomplished his goal. If he ultimately lives in the dream, then he fully accomplishes it (albeit unrealistically). Because he ends up with the girl, there is not enough suffering and loss in THAT story to pull tears in 3...

    A starting point for Felini?

FOLLOW UP: Ok, if you don't feel like watching the whole collection, then start with La Strada.

    A starting point for Felini?

start at the beginning and work your way forward. That way, you can trace the evolution and growth as it happens.

Two more titles to throw in the mix: Repulsion Possession These, I'd recommend.

    Directors like David Lynch?

If we are talking strictly visuals, give Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall, Losing My Religion music video) a look. Excellent composition and color palette. Subject to taste - as always.

    Directors like David Lynch?

+1 on Cronenberg. Another I might (hesitantly) suggest is Gregg Araki. Probably start with The Doom Generation and go from there, if you are willing.

    Directors like David Lynch?

It's a challenge to identify a director that is "just like" Lynch. I was going more for a list of directors who create a strong visual style with elements of surreal. Regarding Jodorowsky - El Topo and Holy Mountain are his best known works, those are good to start with. Regarding Miike - his...

    Am I being screwed here?

Sounds like you really need to think more about negotiation and compromise rather than who's right or wrong. You are in an awkward situation, figure out how to provide him what he's looking for without giving away what you feel you deserve. How about asking him if he's willing to accept SHARED...

500GB external hard drive enough for film student?

Tiger Direct has 2TB external drives for under $100. That is what I would recommend. You will fill up 500 GB so fast, and then kick yourself for wasting the money on something that wasn't enough.

Does a short film have to be that good?

What indietalk said. Directing IS storytelling (or, at least it should be). If you don't care about telling the best possible story in your best possible way - then why are you doing this? So you decide the story doesn't matter, and you create a technical masterpiece with a flat story. The guy...

    Films like "Pan's Labyrinth"?

The Fall - Tarsem Singh Also by Tarsem is "The Cell" - which I think fits into the strong atmospheric visuals category, but not so much the fairy tale - unless you like your fairy tales really, really dark...and bloody.
