    The Desolation of Smaug

$225 million. For this crap. With shots that look like they would be a prequel to 300 and not to anything I've ever even come close to reading in Tolkien. Cutting from sweeping shot to sweeping shot, again and again. Even the "not in the book" characters and stories they put in are beyond...

    The Desolation of Smaug

LOL. If the admins want to change the title to that, I would be down. There are sooo many things wrong with this movie... scriptwise... rule number 1... don't have characters repeat what you just saw... well we've got the orc or whatever that guy with weapons prosthethi doing that... and how...

    The Desolation of Smaug

OMG. should have been subtitled the desolation of three hours. I thought that is might have been the 48fps from the 1st that made me sick... but realized that Peter Jackson's sweeping, repetitive and completely unnecessary camera movements were the actual fingers pressing the vomit button. I...

Probably the most common question... how do I get it 'out there'

Send it out for industry coverage from someone you trust. I use a guy in NY whose notes are amazing. Revise. Submit to the major contests. Write a query letter. Send to agents. Wait a long time. Keep writing.

cant make it past page 10

Rum and a blank page make for a great night. :) I've been able to write since third grade and my degree is in English. That said, having the ability to write - even write crap - is something that many do not posses. If you know your characters, you should be able to put them into a scene and...

cant make it past page 10

DO NOT SKIP THE BLAKE SYNDER STUFF. I'm guessing you are new to screenwriting... well, this is where it all begins. Even John Truby, who says you can't sell a 3 act structure still is really just sideways around it. I have more than a few screenplays under my belt, but what works wonders for...

story Do films need traditional love stories?

But the OP said this "I'm going to explore other avenues that aren't so traditional" and by his post, his film isn't a romance or a rom-com and he is curious about how to inject what I assume to be a love story into his B story without it being cliche. Audiences love characters they can feel...

story Do films need traditional love stories?

Birdman... this is in fact what every "noob" screenwriting needs... a different way of looking at things (and in fact what the OP asked for). Are Norman Osborn and Lex Luther evil? Or just overly ambitious (in love with success/money/power)? If LOVE is the most powerful thing, love of anything...

What's it take to be a Film Buff?

I can see a stop sign. But that doesn't mean I understand it. Or can even appreciate it for all the lives it has saved as it has stood against blinding sun, pelting rain, iced winds and more.
