'Tis the Season of the Witch Kickstarter

Hey, all! Tis the Season of the Witch will be my next directorial project; a fun and clever horror-comedy that follows a group of HS kids as they try to solve a mystery that surrounds their small-town high school in 1985. 'Tis the Season of the Witch will take you back to the 1980s, 1985 to be...

archived-videos Night People - Teaser Trailer

Great posters! Love the design and they are the reason why I watched the trailer. I thought the trailer score was great (very retro sci-fi) but overall was a little turned off by the aesthetic of the color grade. A little too video-y for me. I'd watch it though if it were on TV based on the...

Purchasing a script VS. Writing your own.

It really depends on your writing skills and techniques. One wouldn't necessarily need a script doctor. I'd assume the percentage of indie filmmakers who hire script doctors is fairly low.

Is it normal for the DP to get to call this during shoots?

There are a lot of excellent silent films. Can you make a film without visuals and just sound? No, it's now an audio book or narration ;) Can you make a film without sound and just visuals? Yes, it's now a silent film Having said that, they are both extremely important to modern day film making.

    Casting Known Talent

This is simply not true. There are other variables that play into this as well such as your own reputation, your own credibility, your connections, and of course money and everything that surrounds that. There is talent out there that will attach themselves to a project even if the script is...

Sioux Falls SD music video casting call

I'm from the Sioux Falls area and still get quite a few actors from there for projects. Facebook is a great place to start and there are a few active groups such as Sioux Empire Acting and Sioux Empire Filmmaking. A lot of talent in the area - you just have to look. Also - Minneapolis isn't...

Precautions to take for rain, film shoot in 30 days? (Cash on the line)

Have a plan B as the others said but there is no way a 30-day forecast is reliable at this time.

    Anyone here into slasher movies?

$20,000 for a short film? That's quite a lot of money for a short slasher. I was thinking about pledging for a DVD because I thought the trailer was really well done and a lot of the shots looked great, but I see that it's $50 (Yes, fifty dollars) to get the DVD. $50 for a DVD of a short...

Who owns the rights over an indie film? Copyright

Did you come up with the idea? Who funded the project? From what you've said, I would say that you are the sole copyright holder as the creator. The other individual was brought onto the project by you to fulfill the role of the producer who (i'm assuming) helped out for no money and mainly for...

Who owns the rights over an indie film? Copyright

Most individuals who work on a movie are work-for-hire and have no claim to copyright or ownership of the film. For example, the DOP who was work-for-hire does not claim ownership of what he/she shoots during the course of production. His employer does. This is always or should always be...

    Filmmaking is too damn expensive

I will only contribute to Kickstarter campaigns and it always baffles me the stuff I see on IGG with flexible campaigns. People are getting out of hand with them. Also to the original poster - I think most film festivals are a waste of money and do no good for the filmmaker in terms of...

editing Anyone know where I can get blu rays and dvd cover made for a project?

Generally the company you go through such as Discmakers has the DVD cover or Blu-Ray cover design template you download and use in Photoshop or a program similar. They basically walk you through the entire process by having the directions right on there.

editing Anyone know where I can get blu rays and dvd cover made for a project?

I hire graphic designers and illustrators to design and then I use Discmakers.com to physically make the DVDs and Blu-Rays.
