I'm quite happy buying a RODE blimp for cheap then later on spending more to get something else better like say a Rycote Cyclone or whatever. As I think this can make sense with long term thinking, as the cheaper stuff I buy now becomes the future "back up gear" for myself.

Budget is a significant factor, but not such an extremely pressing concern that I *have to* go with the cheapest option. I am starting out production sound guy, so doing lots of free jobs, and a handful of paid jobs (and aiming to quickly reverse this ratio!).

Often a case of just simply slogging away and building yourself up as you go along. You start off with no experience and nothing to show, so you make some sh*t with just your non filmmaking buddies. Next you find a few film enthusiasts at least who can make one a bit better. This then helps...

Chenjie108, I'd highly recommend keeping to a small and tight crew while you're starting out. Makes it easier to manage the controlled chaos! Then as you learn more you can grow and expand out your crew to cover more roles.

WhiteOpus, that is a reason why I went with the Sony F3! It is *BIG*!! Check it out! Is surprisingly affordable now, and is an amazing camera.
