Wedding videography! That's my new thing, as of yesterday. I've flirted with the idea for months, finally decided to pull the trigger. I will continue working in restaurants, cuz I kinda have to, but only for two days per week. The rest of the week shall be dedicated to the camera. :D

Indeed, this is very true. I was really satisfied with the performance of my T2i (considering the price). However, it doesn't meet the OP's requirements. Yes, it has input for external audio, but you can't monitor it. And recording audio without monitoring it would be like recording video...

Ditto again. 18-55 is versatile. Anything longer is impractical.

jax beat me to it. This also how I would tackle the problem. Premiere also has the same capability, as would pretty much any editing software. You can "zoom in", for lack of a better word, then just scroll through the footage until you see a spike in the waveform.
