SD is standard definition is 480p instead of 720p or 1080p. It is a bit outdated but will allow you to start making movies.

Stealing software is no different than stealing movies or shop lifting. It is still a crime. How would you feel if you released something and others just took it for free? Work within your means. If you can't legally afford the Adobe Suite then buy Sony Vegas for $150 if you can't afford...

Windows Movie Maker is the cheapest alternative. For Windows after that Sony Vegas would be the next step up. I think you can do compositing in it but not sure. I know After Effects for sure is used for compositing but it is relatively expensive.

Since you do not have a cellphone. Here is a suggestion for a entry level camecorder. JVC HD Everio GZ-HM35BUSD You can get it on Walmart.com for $125 plus shipping including a memory card. It shoots in 1080p and will be a good place to start. Down the road look at the T2i, T3i, and GH2 to...

I have seen Rik offer the same advice to others as well. I still shoot some footage on my cellphone and incorporate it into my films. It serves well for found footage and logically makes sense.

    Using footage without permission?

If the people granting the scholarship find out you used someone else work they can revoke the scholarship offer. That is plagiarism. And it shows a lot about your character which the school will look at as well.

You'll need 3 lights for most setups. I have two softboxes and a backlight that I use. It can be something as simple as 3 can lights though your results will probably vary with them.

That budget puts you in the T3i, T2i, GH2 range for camera models. This will allow you enough room to buy some audio stuff as mentioned above. Then you will need a computer to edit all this on. If you go the Mac route minimum you are looking at is $2700 for a laptop. Then Adobe CS6 is...

Thank you Skeptical. It is probably the first piece that I have shot that I was 90% happy with. I am just glad I was finally able to capture some great images with my camera.

    just finished first film

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ1GL51H8Xg Nice attempt but to me it falls a little flat on the movie look. What camera and lens did you shoot this on? The story was a good idea and I think you have potential. Keep practicing.

Thank you for the input. I agree it could use some better music but I was working with what I could find. :D I will look for something more ambient. I was trying to go away from my normal of dark/scary/horror.

    archived-videos The Beauty of Night

This is my darkest video yet. It was shot on a Sony NEX FS100 with a kit lens at 17MM 0DB F3.5 and a shutter speed of 1/48th. The only light was provided by an led light mounted to the camera. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did in making it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTzqUWuBNUQ
