Ideal mic setup for grade school classroom scene?

Interesting. I woulda thought you want a stereo field of the kids when they're all laughing. But I watched some Kindergarten Cop scenes and they do sound mono. So is a hypercardioid appropriate for capturing the whole class?

Ideal mic setup for grade school classroom scene?

Setting is a traditional classroom, rows of individual desks. The teacher and a few kids have speaking roles, the others will laugh or taunt on cue. What's the ideal mic setup? Here's my current gear: 1 cardioid condenser 1 large diaphragm condenser, 3 pickup patterns (omni, cardioid, fig8) 1...

    Failure

I don't mean you make a film and it fails financially or critically. I mean you put a huge effort into a film shoot and the footage sucks or you missed some key shots or the actors were off, etc. Anyone experience failure like that? Did you abandon the project? Abandon that particular scene...

Giving actors footage for their reels?

It's cool. I get where you're coming from.

Giving actors footage for their reels?

I posted this in the newb section because I'm a newb asking a newb question. There's no "method" here. I even admitted a personal flaw and thought of another point of view that would be the exact opposite of harming my nonexistent reputation. lol

Giving actors footage for their reels?

Maybe a better way of thinking about it is an actor puts some of my footage in their reel and whoever sees it also sees my name. I think I was just caught off guard by her approach. I'm perfectionist to a fault, so I couldn't fathom why she'd want anything short of a final, polished work...

Giving actors footage for their reels?

Yeah, I meant charging for raw or near-raw footage. Of course if I put it out there, they can download it and throw it in their reels, so I'd be happy to give them footage from the higher quality file I uploaded. But what if you're not happy with the final work and decide to shelve it, or what...

Giving actors footage for their reels?

I did a shoot the other day and one of the actors asked me to send her clips. I said it'll probably take me a long long time to edit. She said just send her her parts and she can edit them herself for her reel. Sounded weird to me. I dunno, is that normal? I was under the impression that actors...

    MTA permits?

I'm well aware of that. It's actually not the relevant page since MTA has their own "rules"... http://web.mta.info/nyct/sub_filming/filming.htm I'm asking for people's personal experiences.

    MTA permits?

Anyone get a permit to film in the subway? What was the process like, what was the scale of your project, and how much $$$ did they want?

    editing Adjustable 2.35:1 letterbox?

Is there video editor that lets you *easily* move a 2:35:1 crop in a 16:9 picture? For example, in one part of a scene, I'm fine with the typical 2.35:1 crop; i.e., 131.5 pixels off the top, 131.5 pixels off the bottom. But in another part of the scene, I'd prefer, say, 200 pixels off the...

The chicken or the egg? (actors or set first?)

How do you go about setting up a shoot for a short film? Secure a set and specific day/time, and then find actors who can be there that day/time? Or get actors and then secure venue day/time around actors' schedules?

cinematography Any idea how this was done?

Doesn't look like the same thing. The angle completely changes several times, and the zooming isn't that fast. My uneducated guess is they used a drone, filmed him lip synching to the music at half speed, and then sped it up to normal speed when editing.

    cinematography How fast is fast?

nvm. Got the Speedmaster 25. Very impressed. Fwiw, at least on mine, the aperture rings continue opening all the way to the 0.95 mark. I saw some reviews saying they seemed to stop earlier and questioning whether it's really f/0.95.

    Slow motion question

Let's say the camera can record 60p max. Do you shoot 60p all the way through for smoothest movement, and then in editing slow down certain parts to 24p for slow-mo? Or do you shoot at 24p for regular parts, and 60p for parts intended to be slow-mo? Or both? Or neither?

cinematography I read something on the internet about UV filtering

"All digital camera sensors have a UV/IR filter in front of the sensor, so there is no more need to use UV filters on DSLRs." Source: https://photographylife.com/lens-filters-explained/ True or false? I don't see anything in the description or manual for the Lumix G85 about built-in UV/IR...

Tripod with wheels that goes straight without a track?

To be fair, it's not clear on those whether "locking" refers to orientation or spin. The rep said that you could lock the wheels so they don't spin, but they'd still swivel.
