What are film programs like at a community college?

Sorry - I used the word "literally" to emphasize that my main focus is NOT to attend community college as my primary source of film knowledge. I'd prefer to learn and practice on my own at first. I'm a very independent person, but I realize this is hurting me. I don't have too many friends that...

What are film programs like at a community college?

As surprising as it may seem, I do have common sense. I'm very well aware that the first step in finding a good college match is to do extensive research and figure out how to take advantage of their services. I know you should weigh the cost and the resources available. I know how to use sites...

What are film programs like at a community college?

I have an exam to prepare for, so I'll try to make this brief (I don't have time to dissect the responses line by line). I'm speaking more to ChimpPhobiaFilms and ItDonnedOnMe now. I'll throw in a little more information - when I asked my question, I didn't think this information was relevant...

What are film programs like at a community college?

Thank you for clearing up your comment. As for the thick skin? Don't worry. I won't be losing any sleep over this. I know that all indie filmmakers, from the first timers to the well-seasoned proffesionals, need to find a crew at some point in order to make a film: that crew can be a skeleton...

What are film programs like at a community college?

Not much. :) a little slow, to be honest. I've had to put my writing on hold these past two months or so for school - I actually have my finals this upcoming week, and I'm taking the SAT tomorrow! Stressful times. I've been meaning to catch up on Indie Talk though.

What are film programs like at a community college?

You may think you're being subtle, but by telling me to calm down and "take a deep breath", I can tell you're trying to patronize me. I appreciate that your comment was meant in a helpful tone - out of the others, it was the most neutral. I didn't mean to come off as sarcastic, and I'm sorry...

What are film programs like at a community college?

I'm sorry: I was only curious. If you're saying that every single person who attends film school or enters a film program wants to be the director, that's fine by me. I was only wondering if community college was a good place to meet people interested in specific areas of film - audio...

What are film programs like at a community college?

So you're saying it's uncommon for community colleges to offer actual film production courses? That's a shame :( I definitely don't want to spend any money learning theory

What are film programs like at a community college?

Thats correct - the same type of dedicated "crew" members you'd find at any other film school. If it isn't worth it (as in, if the people in the film program aren't even remotely serious about actual filmmaking), I won't consider it.

What are film programs like at a community college?

I've made the firm decision I don't want to go to film school. But, I was wondering this - what are film programs like at community colleges and junior colleges? Do they have decent editing software? (I'm aware they don't have state of the art equipment; not by a long shot!) More importantly...

Can women really "make it" as directors?

I was reading a very distressing article today about female filmmakers, and the reality of gender inequality within Hollywood: http://blogs.indiewire.com/womenandhollywood/an-oscar-nominated-director-gets-real I was very disheartened to say the least. Being a young female, I was always worrying...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

This is actually a relief to me. Right now, I'm a little sick of working with other teenagers. I enjoy speaking with adults, because I do feel they have stories to tell (I know, that sounds corny). As far as the whole "go to college for life experience" thing goes, one would think a community...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

Thanks for clearing that up :) Awesome suggestions! This really helps me, so thank you. I'll most certainly look into some of these. I was originally worried 35mm filmmaking was completely different from digital filmmaking, but if the fundamentals are the same and your DP takes care of the...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

Thanks Uncle Bob :D I've always wanted to be a screenwriter, without a doubt. Though I consider myself relatively new to filmmaking (I know the bare basics), I've probably spent a few hundred hours these past 3 years studying and working on screenwriting. It was always my first passion. I've...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

This may sound a little strange, but your post absolutely inspired me. I hadn't the slightest idea that a $3,000 quality film school existed. Unfortunately, the location is a bit far for me, but it's certainly something to consider I spent about an hour researching community colleges last night...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

Those are definitely good points. But would you say these expensive camera packages can only be found in 40k+ a year film schools? I understand small community colleges with a 3k a year tuition probably won't have these materials. But in such instances, would you say the materials offered at...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

So how would you suggest I help her? I can't stand the thought of 'leaving her behind' and creating a career for myself on my own. I'm not going to lie that it's an idea I've toyed with. It would certainly be infinitely easier and less stressful. But the guilt of abandoning her and the potential...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

I do realize that I tend to overthink things. A part of me can't help it though. With so many people hitting dead ends with indie filmmaking, I'm left wondering if it's because they didn't properly educate themselves. And then, as you said, I'm back into the corner of self doubt and endlessly...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

hmmm. I think the transfer agreement still applies in California. That definitely sounds like a good idea; though I'm not sure about devoting 6 years of my life to college. I was thinking I'd start my career out of high school, rather than adding on another academic delay That's really...
