    Dissapointing...

So, you're saying, if you've never completed a short film then you're basically going to have a disastrous feature film? Unless you're in the negligible percentage point that could possibly have a successful one? Inversely, that means you believe that doing short films somehow raises the...

shooting-film OK, Now I'm confused (Focal lengths 35mm film vs FF and crop sensors)

Actual answer to your question: CInema world does not refer to things from a Full Frame perspective, so in Cinema world 35mm is the normal. In Full Frame world, that equals a 50mm. Both are normals, depending on which world you come from. Neither are wrong. On the same hand, a 50mm could...

    editing color correction tips.

Well, I guess take this or leave it: use Neutral at most on a Canon cam. When you are working with cameras that constrain all of their information within a certain set of values, that gets compressed, you have to play by the camera's rules. By flattening out an image, not white balancing to a...

    editing color correction tips.

Neutral is probably the best way to roll on any Canon camera, but do realize that no amount of tweaking the camera will allow you to move the image every which way but loose. It's still just DSLR footage. The closer you get to your look in camera, the more people look like people, the better...

    editing color correction tips.

I'd like to say that I can't, for the life of me, understand why people think the "film look" means "desaturation" or lack of contrast... but, I know why people do this. Trying to mimic the range of Film by desaturating an image and lifting shadows does not make your stuff like like film, it...

    editing color correction tips.

If you actually care about how people look and noise floors, do not use Cinestyle. And IMO, contrast is a good thing. Your first image looks better to me, just needs fine tuning on lighting ratios.

    > My Crowdfunding Experience

Someone that knew of me, and had been watching my progress for a while online (another forum), believe it or not. Turns out that those other guys had been watching me as well. And, after the trailer was released a total of three people came forward via email and asked me what I was working on...

cinematography How bad is it to film at night?

That was my plan as well. I looked at flashlights with rechargeable replaceable batteries that had crazy lumens. About a knot of four in a soft box could create interesting lighting situations at night.

cinematography How bad is it to film at night?

Works well for tight shots. But, it may be a little much for this specific community. Haha Thanks for the test. I need to go and buy a fistful of highpowereds to test out.

Can you post a private link with password and a warning? I've been considering this method for a good two months, would love to see what you pulled off. Or, if you could upload some private footage from the other shots you used it on.

    The death of DSLR?

Interview with John: http://freytag-film.com/blog/artikel/talk-about-the-new-black-magic-design-cinema-camera Like I said, anything below 16~18 is considered ultra wide and uncommon. An 11-16/2.8 Tokina will put you in the range of common wide, it costs 600.00 and will cover everything from...

    The death of DSLR?

You know what was shocking to read on that other GH2 heavy forum? "The sensor is too small." Seriously? http://vimeo.com/40798498 I've seen the footage many times, and I can barely tell a difference in the crop when it's playing back/looping. It'd be pretty much indistinguishable if I...

    The death of DSLR?

Fisheye = Fisheye Rectilinear = Straight lens You should never actually see a straight-up Fisheye effect if you don't have a fisheye lens. So you could go as wide as 7mm in PL mount and still not be fisheye. Distortion may grab and skew edges in straight or diagonals, but it's not...

    The death of DSLR?

    1. a 50 is a 50 is a 50. Doesn't matter if it's a micro four thirds lens or not. A MFT 12mm is no different than a 12mm EF lens that covers Full Frame. They're still both 12mm. 2. There are SEVERAL options for wide lenses. Sigma makes a rectilinear 8-15mm Zoom. T2i is smaller than S35...

    The death of DSLR?

I'm curious what sensor size has to do with anything? It's larger than Super 16 and a decent amount of major motion pictures have shot S16 or less in the past six years. Less being 2/3". A few have been listed already... I mean, if sensor size REALLY mattered that much then Avatar, Hurt...

    Blackmagic Deisgn 2.5K Raw S16 -- for 2,999.99 - July

He's using resolve to convert the raw. It's just a prototype camera, so with that comes a lotof bad things. John mentioned that there were dead pixels, that's an indicator of just how prototype it is. The camera I have testing right now freezes when attempting to record some times. Super...

    The death of DSLR?

Despite the camera offering digital audio inputs, which should be pretty good for real audio team, I can't understand why on board audio is even being brought up. This isn't a camcorder or video camera. It's clearly being touted as digital cinema. That mean you use a second sound system and...

    Blackmagic Deisgn 2.5K Raw S16 -- for 2,999.99 - July

Oh, and I should point out, in comparison to low grade video (4:2:0 8-bit), heavily compressed formats... uncompressed will look noisier. Observe hacked GH2 footage. The less compressed the signal from the sensor, the more noise. Or, if you've ever messed with Viper or Genesis footage, same...
