    computer suggestions?

I just bought a new editing pc based on an Intel Core i7 920 and a Asus P6T motherboard with 6GB of RAM and 2,5TB HDD space. For graphics I jused a Gforce GT 9600 chip. I payed about 860€ for it, which would be around 1200$. You can save some $$$ on the motherboard and use less drive space, but...

    More Youtube Problems

Looks fine over here. I've heard, that sometimes Youtube gives you the low quality version by default if it detects a slow internet connection. However I don't know if they still do it that way. So if you're on a slow connection, this might be an issue.

    Youtube

Export in 1280x720 even if your Video is only SD-Quality. That way you force Youtube into converting your Video with their HD-Profile giving it more bandwith and in the end better Quality. Also try to get something above 3000kbits for the bandwith with two-pass-encoding enabled and make sure to...

    archived-videos Documentary Short on Parkour

not bad, especially for one of your early project. I used to do Parkour myself and we always made a pretty strict ditinction between freerunning and parkour where parkour was exclusively for effective moveing from A to B and freerunning was all the frontflip "show" / just "looks cool" part of...

    camera settings for web

Shoot 1080, even if it's for the web. That way you have more control over your footage for example when you want to reframe or deshake it in post. Also you have the ability do show a full 1080-version should you ever need it. Generally downresed 1080 looks better than 720 original. You get more...

I have cut with Avid Xpress and FCP previously but it was a while ago-whats good now

Have you looked into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4? I use CS3 and I really like it, CS4 is even better from what I've heared and seen. I suggest you just go to the websites for all the products and download the free Trial which usually runs for 15-30 days with all the features. That way you'll be able...

    editing Problems in Premiere

Sry, haven't read the whole Thread, but have you tried changing the Preview-Settings from Automatic to Highest Quality, yet? Here's a little screenshot:

editing What type computor to edit ect?

Premiere handels AVCHD nativly since CS4. Also Sony Vegas supports it. As for system specs, I'd say if you're not doing anything fancy, a recent Intel DualCore with 4GB of Ram should do fine. In fact, any pc you buy at your local pc-store for 'round 500$ will be just fine for hd-editing.

    Confused

Another huge Problem with the 5D right now is that it doesn't give you manual controls when shooting video. This will probably be adressed in one of the upcomming firmware updates but until then, I wouldn't buy one if your're really serious about filmmaking. The hvx200 and ex3 give you a lot...

    Transition Issues

I don't work with FCP, but it seems that your computer has to render the transitions and in order to do this in real time, it uses a lower quality. In general this should only affect preview inside your editing program and shouldn't bee a problem once you render the film for your dvd.

    editing Colour Levels in post-production

Yes, the Programs you mentioned have Color Correction functionality. However, After Effects isn't an editing program but rather a compositing and motion graphics program. It still does good color correction though.

    Live Green Screen/Chroma Key

VLC can do live Green Screen Keying. However, I've never really tested it. Cinelerra on Linux would be another option. Also have a look at http://www.arkaos.net/ and http://www.nagashare.com/PRODUCTS/VJdirector.html And here are a bunch of other links to look at. Copied them from another forum...

    Is the JVC GZ-HD7 a good camera/buy?

Yes, the camera shows up as a USB-Drive with a folder with all the different takes saved as .TOD. Last year I shot a short film with this camera and I must say: It's a really good camera! The editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 didn't really pose an issue. I just renamed all the files via batch...

In documentary films why are subjects...

Because they usually face the guy that's interviewing them. Looking right into the camera is normally a thing you should avoid.

cinematography difference between zoom and steadicam

Well, the best way is to test it for yourself. Just take your camera and do a zoom and then a walk. You'll notice the difference! Dolly looks way better most of the time. However there're times when a zoom fits perfectly.

    XPPro32bit--too late to purchase+...?

Well, my brother is running Vista 64bit on a Quadcore with 4GBs or RAM and afaik he hasn't had any program not work on his 64bit system. There were problems with older programs but running the programs in compatible-mode seemed to fix the problem. So I wouldn't worry about software not being...

    XPPro32bit--too late to purchase+...?

Going for WinXP 32bit is the wrong choice, I think. For Videoediting these days you are lost without 64bit and support for more than 3GBs of RAM. I'd suggest you either go with Vista 64 bit and more than 4 GBs or RAM or you wait till Windows 7 comes out at the end of 2009. It's supposed to be...
