for $350 range, all cameras are alike. for formats, starting out, mini DV is the best. Stay far away from the dvd format. accesories would be extra batteries and a tripod

best new camera for low budget production?

Thought you were just scared of the format of P2 :D Sonys memory is indeed cheaper, and will most likely win for that. The Canon 7D is a DSLR still camera that shoots 1080p 24p. It gives a pretty 'stylized' looking picture which people love and hate. It's relitively cheap for it's image...

    Canon EOS 5D Mark II

I also wonder. Not sure why such shallow DOF is desired throughout a film. I just don't really enjoy the picture these DSLRs shoot, but i have seen some good things come from them.

    Random Filmmaking Fact.

If you choose to shoot a large scene that invloves a lot of fake blood, and is an outdoor location, make sure to lay a covering on the ground as staining the streets red with fake blood is considered property damage and will make your insurance company pretty angry :)

    First film- some concerns

Cameras? I'd aim for 1 for now... Generator? Run in far from the barn, get stingers (electrical extention cables), put it behind a tree or down a hill to try and muzzle the sound. The hard truth is, your first film will most likely turn out poor. And thats just because your new to it. Do what...

    Best Cities For Indie Films?

wow, surprised. Mostly to see NYC further down on the list and no LA. A great way to find out other then that source, is visting Craigslist or Mandy in that specific city and seeing how many gigs, and how frequently they pop up.

best new camera for low budget production?

The scarlet isnt out. And most likely wont be for a while (they are revamping it, changing it). Red will set you back about $35k-$65k depending on the extras and lenses you get. The EX3 is a great camera. And dont be afraid of P2 or media cards, they are all easy enough to learn and manage.

    cinematography Critique First Ligthing Test

I agree with michael. The subject is too flat. Try softening or diffusing the key light, and use a bead board for the fill so there is some contrast. The BG needs more light, its way too dark.

    Canon EOS 5D Mark II

cinematography Lens adapter on Standard Def Camera

From an AC: If you can go HD, do it. If you can't, don't worry. Of course HD has great benefits, but If you can't afford it, SD is still good. Like someone above stated, resolution doesn't make the film.
