    Do lens converters degrade quality?

All my cameras use a bayer filter, so they use anti-aliasing to reduce color moire. The 7D otherwise has a lot of moire normally, and it's visible on the big screen. The 5D3 is very good at removing moire with other filters and microlenses, at some expense of sharpness. Moire is a sensor issue...

    Do lens converters degrade quality?

They do note that it's not comparable across different systems, but nowhere I could find do they support your claim that pushing the center resolution harder gives negligible differences. However, if what you say is true and the differences are completely trumped by filters and internal...

A7S and GH4 - what are your thoughts on them?

Very cool. I don't think you can go wrong with the gh4. But to get the SDI stuff and nice output, you need to buy the dock, so don't be too swayed by the price difference. The biggest difference to me is the sensor size. I like larger sensors for the creative opportunities, but they are also...

    Do lens converters degrade quality?

The kraut is correct, but for film it doesn't make any difference at all. As a still photographer, I note that certain lenses look worse due to the extra magnification. It uses a smaller part of the lens and will push that center harder. It absolutely is noticed in still photography. This is why...

Sony vegas 12 time line question

If it's just to match music, render them all in lower rez, then import the rendered clips into a new vegas file.

    looking for a light meter

The old meters work consistently in any conditions, but $87 w/shipping seems really expensive for something you can find for $10 in a pawn shop or $5 at goodwill if you're lucky. If you can't find a spot attachment, you can use the translucent semi-globe, and use incident metering in different...

    looking for a light meter

Hrm, those meters are off from each other by half a stop. If it's that inaccurate, I wouldn't buy it. True, although the default is scene exposure for pretty much all the cameras. On the 6D I think you can set it to center weighted and maybe tighter. But you have to do it in the menu system...

    looking for a light meter

It depends what you're shooting and the quality required. If you're doing a scene that lasts 2 minutes in a movie, but the scene takes all day to shoot and has windows, you will want a light meter so that as the light outside changes, you can adjust/add light so that the shadows aren't...

    looking for a light meter

I lolled. Assuming they both do spot metering, there is no difference for you except maybe a touch screen. The $900 one is not 4.5x as good as the $200 one, because you will not know how to take advantage of the features. It will have things like shutter angle which will make no sense unless...

    SOny vegas 12 question

Auto-ripple is the main one I'm thinking of, and all the post-edit ripple commands (like ctrl-shift-F) to collapse deleted areas. I use that frequently. But I'm not positive how my footage got out of sync that one time... but it was a major pain. All of my volume settings were off, too, because...

    SOny vegas 12 question

Don't leave a gap. While a gap will work for black, there are commands and options that compress empty space in vegas (on purpose). This can screw up sound sync, and I've had it happen. I think best practice is to always have something in the timeline with no gaps.

How do I sell myself to talent agents?

That means get the footage. Keeping the producers out means you don't tell people to contact them (referring to your previous question), not that you don't secure and use the footage.

Good wide-angle zoom lens for Canon 5D Mark III?

I was wondering why you need a wide-aperture UWA lens, myself... If you're shooting in a bathroom, maybe. But then you don't really need a really wide aperture unless you simply don't have enough light. You might consider the very new 16-35 F4L. It's around $1200, but I bet you can find a demo...

How do I sell myself to talent agents?

Get the footage. Make a reel, include that with your resume. Keep the producers out of the discussion.

How do I sell myself to talent agents?

Don't most actors make a reel? I've made them for people. Get a director friend to help you make a reel. You write the script, he directs and shoots it with you in it. That means *he* directs it, not you. If you can't take direction as an actor, you're either really really good and have won...

Depth of field with the GH3... What am I missing?

What happens is that you are magnifying everything, including magnifying the blur. Think about it this way: if you're up close to the actors using a wide lens, you are using a wider angle and will see more of the background. If you're farther away, the angle decreases (to keep them actors in...

sound Worked boom for first time

Worked with a new mixer today... shoulders in pain. Learned a lot. Also wired up a car with plants and transmitters. Do not apply armor-all to cars before sound gets to look at it first! Long past time for ibuprofen and sleep.
