what a difference a year can make

Like I saw on one of those silly facebook things that spread around the other day. "Don't aim for skinny, aim for healthy." Well done bud.

    Just Wow. Holy Condo, Batman!

NYC. The only place in the world where you can spend $10K a month on your residence and not have any control over the thermostat in winter. An old college friend of my lady's lives in a building with that price tag and old school radiators for heat. There is no thermostat in the units, they...

    My dog is legal again!!

I don't recommend spending much time in arctic villages if you are a dog lover. <_< Dog chained outside every house, many chained in places where there aren't even houses. A few running around feral, but those don't survive long due to the "bored, drunk human" factor.

    Anyone here into Bitcoin?

Ray beat me to the link. @Cracker - the biggest supporters of bitcoin are the very people most capable of stealing them. ;)

cinematography Mixing miniature puppets with full-size humans

Saw Sticky this morning when I glanced over fb, gave me a quick chuckle. Sound like green screen is the way to go. Stop motion for sticky, or is he a marionette?

Just a thought - but are there shots you have in mind where you could use forced perspective instead of greenscreen?

I Shot "Guerilla style" could the city sue me

If you get a distribution deal you are very likely going to have to get Errors and Omissions insurance, which will protect you and the distributor from civil and (most) criminal litigation. Don't sweat it. If you are concerned about screening it before someone wants to distribute it, get the...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

Sorry for not quoting, cumbersome to do so from my phone: @sfoster -- that is somewhat true, though there aren't really too many choices within commuting distance from Yolo county, so she'll likely need to consider moving out anyway. Besides, if she transfers to a 4 year school she'll be able...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

Sorry I didn't clarify. Transferring from a JC to a UC (or CSU, which is a less expensive system) doesn't add 2 years to your duration at all. You're basically knocking out your Freshman/Sophmore requirements at the JC and transferring as a Junior (3rd year student) Should take you max 3 more...

Avoid withoutabox.com (WAB) - you must read this thread!

Improvement Patents/New Use Patents are what you guys are looking for. Will is correct that patents are for implementations, not just ideas. WAB didn't patent their website, they patented their engine. Build a better engine that qualifies as improvement or new use...

film-school INCREDIBLY conflicted about film school (please help?)

To throw a wrench in your works - I don't agree with either you or your sister. I am of the opinion that the "film schools" you see advertised on television and the internet are either "on-set employee factories" or scams. The only "worth-while" film schools are at the graduate level -...

    Favorite Canon mount lenses?

It's not my favorite lens (I think it's kinda over-rated, but that's a personal aesthetic opinion, mechanically and technically they are good and many people really like them and their look), but your t4i can use the Tokina 11-16. It's not really that fast (2.8), but it has the advantage of...

Should I get a new camera?

If you were ready to go down the path of being an owner/operator shooter, I'd say sure, go for it. But the for the path you seek, worrying about the pixel peepers or if you could get hired for other people's films as an owner/op (or an owner/DIT, which seems to be common around here) is really...

Kickstarter hacked - change your passwords

Sounds plausible, though not many places allow either passwords longer than 16 characters or spaces - though one could simulate the latter with "_." Figuring out if the entropy he used was with or without spaces is way above my pay grade in math though.

Should I get a new camera?

To be completely honest, this is probably the last thing you should be thinking about right now. Worry about your delivery specs when you have someone looking to purchase your deliverables. A film fest isn't going to screen your bad movie because it is in 4k, just as they would not ditch your...

Kickstarter hacked - change your passwords

Actually you might as well change them anyway, you're just making your life harder and a hacker's life easier using that style of password. Mr. Monroe explains far better than I ever could.

Should I get a new camera?

GH4 has improved read speed from the sensor which is supposed to reduce rolling shutter artifacts, but it's not a global shutter camera. As I understood the last material I read, if I missed a revised spec or something then ignore that comment. :) As to your options, I don't really know. You've...
