    Who Wants In???

Gazing into my window is its own punishment. Actually that is a pretty good idea, though I vote for anything other than yet another film about making films. It could be a good way to create a longer piece. I have some thoughts in that, but I am no writer.

    Who Wants In???

Interested to see how this evolves. Why do you feel you need two cinematographers? Are you thinking to shoot two camera setups? How have you come to this decision before the script has been written, perhaps it would not lend itself to a multiple camera shoot? Generally speaking...

lighting Green Screen Lighting w/ gels

Keep the colored light off your screen, keep green spill from your screen off the talent, and as long as you aren't using green gels in the talent you should be fine. Lighting your talent to match the plate is the correct way to key.

    Any BMPCC Users?

Basically yeah. I 'm reconsidering this camera for some doc content likely destined for web delivery. Wondering how folks feel about the shutter in day to day use. Obviously more "rolling" than some other, slightly more expensive options, but interested to hear some experiences from the...

    Any BMPCC Users?

I'll have to check out those links. For those who've used one, in a scale of "complete non-problem" to "utterly unusable without IS" how would you rate the shutter?

editing Can you make well lit scenes appear dark in Post Production?

This. The important thing to remember is that the human eye is a adaptation machine. If the scene is flat and then darkened, the eye will adapt and "open up" further flattening the scene while writing counter to your goal. If you look carefully at night scenes you'll notice a few small points...

    Panasonic GH4 Available for Pre-Order

Fwiw: Personal View is reporting that Panasonic is dropping m4/3 and sending their small camera engineers to either the mobile or pro camera divisions. Haven't seen the story corroborated elsewhere and linking to PV breaks the CoC on indietalk. Take with a grain of salt, or the whole shaker.

    cinematography Mastering focus pulling

Also very true. Though when operating with both eyes open, or setting up with breathy lenses before talent is fully in it still comes into play. Again, a foundation skill for a complex task. The two are different to be sure, but I would be a lesser operator without what I learned as a First.

    cinematography Mastering focus pulling

Well, big topic, but I'll start with something basic. You really need to be able to accurately estimate distance at a glance. That takes practice. Sight objects around your house and try to guess the distance, then measure it and see how far off you were, rinse and repeat. It sounds silly, but...

    Hostility

Actually I completely disagree with that. Everyone is responsible for their own actions, including internet posts. People who can't read an H44 thread without trolling him shouldn't open it in the first place. I stopped reading most of those because it's too difficult for me to keep my mouth...

    Noah 2014

Sadly, there's no way to cast a film of this budget with historically accurate Mesopotamians. I was in a meeting with a director who's been shopping her auto biographical script around for more budget money. The number one thing she was repeatedly told was to rewrite it for a more "castable"...

Aiming for Sundance... Need to upgrade gear

There's also plenty of incredible work created without the maker ever touching a camera: http://www.jayrosenblattfilms.com/human_remains.php That one and "The Smell of Burning Ants" are simply brilliant.

Aiming for Sundance... Need to upgrade gear

Instead of repeating what Jax et al have already said I'll just leave this paraphrase from a DP under whom I was fortunate enough to train. He may or may not have been quoting/paraphrasing someone "famous." Your Art Director/Production Designer ( or both if you have the budget to have one of...

    The Missing Picture

Update: I got to see this last week, it is an absolute must see for any film maker, doubly so for anyone interested in documentary film. Tremendous telling of Panh's childhood experience surviving Khmer Rouge work camps. The use of clay miniatures puts the dehumanization of the camps center...

    Panasonic GH4 Available for Pre-Order

KineRaw has been vaporware since at least 2011. Also, if they ever get anything to market you can bet it would be fraught with problems, bugs, build quality issues, and probably demonic possession. They can hardly be called a camera company, much less one that can produce reliable hardware...

Vintage used lenses-- my purchases... thoughts? Advice on adapters?

The Olympus should be an OM, so this mount, I think: http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Adapter-Olympus-Camera-Digital/dp/B001G4NBNC The Takumar's may also be a Pentax-K mount, which is pretty common. Do both lenses look to be the same mount or are they different. It is also possible the Super...
