Horror Film: Fake Statistics + "Actual Events" Question

Fantastic! When do we see the teaser trailer! ;) mad_hatter makes a good point too, what is the believability of the "facts"-that in turn could again lead to the idea of them looking up on the internet or other research (if it sticks out THAT much) to see the truth.

I Love/Hate "Rise of the Planet of the Apes".

Looks interesting, but I think this will wait for the DVD Rental (unless I have netflix by then :) ) Cool to hear about Andy S though, he's a great mo-cap actor (is there such a category? ;) )

    Need some votes

Looks like I voted too late- oh well, the film was enjoyable, and it seems like a really great site for future film projects! Cool you got some big names to watch it-excellent! :D

Horror Film: Fake Statistics + "Actual Events" Question

I'm of two conflicting minds of this: On the one hand, yes I can certainly see how this would create interest with this "fake factoid" as it were-and if this were 20 or more years ago, it would work rather well (even now, you can probably make up just about any type of "statistic" fact and find...

series Salman Rushdie's New Sci-Fi Series

I agree with the "Long Format" used by television to tell stories (I STILL think "The Watchmen" should have been done ala HBO, and I Hope/pray/beg that if Gaiman's "The Sandman" ever sees light of day PLEASE let it be a tv series). I feel that trying to cram an epic storyline into 1 2.5 to 3...

Alright guys...New to Film making and would greatly appreciate your help and advice

Welcome to our corner of the universe. I've learned on these boards and through experience, film can be made on anything: 16 mm, 8mm, VHS CamCorder, Iphones, Consumer Camcorder (I use a Canon 900), all the way up to cameras that have two letters and a number designation-not to mention DSLR...

    Selling

And I wonder why sometimes my film shorts have one person in them :D This is something I will probably need to look at as well-releases-if my docu ever gets off the ground, interviews would be a part of it. It seems like such a small thing optically-a release form-but it can have such VAST...

    classic horror film

I rather like that quote! :) I find it interesting the discussion here about an "older style" camera having a better "look" for the project then a new modern HD camera-almost as though there is such a thing as looking "too good" :)

    archived-videos Can You See It?

I think it's in our nature as directors to see the "little things" that most people don't think about or recognize because they aren't looking for it. :) I think too it's because we are constantly going over the footage, literally frame by frame sometimes, and we become so familiar with it, yet...

sound On the degredation of independent film score composers.

For myself, I am waiting for my friend to compose (from scratch) music for me film short. She's doing it for free, so I don't push her hard on it-but I know she has a background in music and has composed other music, so I know I'll get a good product. What I did is I shot my video only footage...

    Wickerman masks for music video

Interesting, I hadn't thought of using a PVC mask itself as a base and putting paper-mache's around it-that leads me to some possible inspiration! That's awesome! I'll have to some experimenting! I like the idea of the black ribbon in place of plastic bands-it would seem more appropriate for a...

    archived-videos Can You See It?

Unless you're referring to the extra mirror reflection (the mirror of the mirror) which is minor, I watched it full screen, and I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary (mind you I can't always see details) If someone points it out then I might see it, but otherwise I don't see an issue.

    Wickerman masks for music video

SIGH.....you just KNEW I was going to post in this thread didn't you? ;) Those are awesome! Thanks for sharing, and can't wait to see the video! Really those are sweet-plastic base-PVC (like Halloween mask type)? Really sweet!:D

    multiple roles in a movie

Your explanation makes a LOT more sense (and is more accurate) than mine-thank you! :) I guess the "keying out" was what threw me

    multiple roles in a movie

"Rotoscoping" is used in alot in animation-it's having an actor "act" out a scene, and they drawing over top of that actor frame by frame-have you seen Waking Life? That's a (surreal) version of rotoscoping. Keying out colours I believe involves, well if you used a green screen for example...

Why are zombie films still so popular?

I have to wonder, we've done modern Frankenstein, Mummy, Somewhat Werewolf, Vampire, Zombie-what about Creature from Black Lagoon! Where's the creature love?? (Creature from black lagoon is my fav Classic movie monster ;) ) I find it interesting the number of views and responses this subject...
