Four completed scripts. Is it time to look for representation?

Yeah I apologize for being confusing.

Thanks Mara, that's what I wanted to know. Didn't realize them asking for it in an email gives a legal standing.

Four completed scripts. Is it time to look for representation?

Forget the manager, I'm asking about the cases you send your script directly to producers. That is true with this amount of paranoia no work would have been recognized these days. My question was a bit more specific than that which is concerning international writers outside of U.S sending full...

Four completed scripts. Is it time to look for representation?

Yes, my question was what happens if that manager show it to the producer? Eventually you want that manager to show your script to producers right? Also I may be wrong, but don't you send query letters to producers rather than agents?

Four completed scripts. Is it time to look for representation?

Let's say your pitch works and they ask for the whole script. In your experience how many times is that script liable to be stolen? Is this stealing part an overrated thing, is it pure paranoia or a rookie move to think that or does that actually happen? Does this happen more often for writers...

Yes, I believe this was a good discussion. It's been dragged way too long so I'm just gonna wrap it up by saying this belief could introduce the mentality to new writers that if their script didn't win in a contest then it is definitely a good high concept script. I hope any aspiring writer who...

Is it possible to apply this rationale to the judges' overall bias towards non- high concept scripts? So it's not a cemented rule for every contest to reject high concept scripts? What happens if that "passion piece" is also a high concept? This is basically what I said. If a writer is...

I read the article you sent. Look at this part : what does it point to? It's basically saying most of the independent films submitted to amazon are sh**. Further proving my point about the scarcity of talent in the world. It has nothing to do with the contests.

Have you ever considered the reason behind the lack of high concept scripts in the grand finalists' pool could be that not a lot of people can write high concept scripts like that and it has nothing to do with the contest's rubrics?

Ok I get what you are saying. Basically you are saying competitions are encouraging up and coming writers to get accustomed to certain formats and styles of writing(non-high concepts) that isn't viable in reality. So when they win because of their already flawed script they can't get far in the...

Seems to me the problem is the writer not the contest. The contests are holding up their end of the bargain which is representation. Now if the said winner can't come up with anymore ideas or high concepts after the representation, is their own problem not the contest.

I wasn't offended at all. No need for an apology. You have an interesting point about these contests' defiance about the industry and how they choose their pool of nominees. Actually the nitpicking part did not only happen in one contest. The overall emphasis on seemingly insignificant matters...

I agree with many things u said here. But most of the things you said I didn't even mention or refute in my comment. You are making an argument and disagreeing with things I never said. I never said they're looking for blockbusters. Nor did I say anything about the judges looking for writers...

    Screenplay Contests....

My personal experience in contests Thought could be helpful to those who want to enter screen writing contests. It is posted in another thread similar to this one. Didn't want to copy it here again.

I'm gonna share my limited experience in entering contests. I'm a Screencraft semi-finalist. At first I too thought that having a good story is all it takes to win in such contests. But the unwritten truth is screenwriting contests are extremely competitive, like applying to Ivy schools...

That is actually putting words in my mouth. When did I say not raising awareness = being ok with it? and I did not say assuming it's ok AND choose not to be a part of it. I said assuming it's ok OR choose not to be a part of it. that one little word changes the entire meaning. It seems I have...

Actually things change whether you accept it or not. you evaded my question, will you accept it? you can make peace with it and assume it "ok" in your mind or you can choose not to be part of it. Just because you don't have the power to change many things doesn't mean you should accept them. You...

    hollywood That'll get you fired!!

Of course we need to be aware of the reality in order to be able to change it I never denied that. Confusing the reality with what is right is what I took issue with. But for this particular problem ( second chances ) I believe it is a matter of mindset rather than a problem in need of an...

Yes, I believe everyone is responsible for that specially the ones in the position of power. Like it or not cinema has roots in reality, it's not entirely fictional. people are who they are, but it doesn't mean we can't channel the ways their needs get satisfied. Even the most evil desires...
