    Camera types...

Great explanation there :) I think you could break the high-end gear down even further though… Right at the top - ARRI Alexa, RED Epic, Sony F65 ($50,000 plus) More mid-range - Sony F3, RED Scarlet, Canon C300 ($10,000 plus) Low-end professional - Panasonic AF-100, Sony FS100 (sub $10,000)

    Newbie question about cameras

I know, and what I'm saying is that a higher quality microphone isn't going to get you much better sound if it's still attached to the camera - you need to get the microphone off the camera and close to the actor's mouth.

    Newbie question about cameras

Reducing the distance between the microphone and the sound source is crucial in recording high quality audio. A £25 mic 6" away from somebody's mouth will sound better than one of these 10' away. Getting the mic off the camera and close to the person's mouth will get you better sound - buying a...

    Comparing two lenses -- opinions?

I went with the Canon 28mm f/1.8 over the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 - it's about the same price, and although it's not quite as fast the extra width is useful; and unlike the Sigma it's compatible with full-frame cameras, which was important for me.

What's wrong the the (Hacked) Panasonic GH2?

Sure, on Hollywood blockbusters. There are a fair few British TV shows that use DSLRs for additional cameras, including This Is England '88, which used a 7D alongside the RED.

What's wrong the the (Hacked) Panasonic GH2?

For big productions, there are quite a few reasons why they'd go with the Canon line rather than the GH2 (as B/C camera or a crash cam). 1. Build quality. The GH2 makes nice images but it's built like a plastic toy. The 7D/5D/1D have metal bodies and varying degrees of weather sealing...

    I Could Use Some Eyes...

I may have mentioned to Nick on Twitter that one element of the script reminded me a tiny bit of a Noel Clarke film. I have now gone into hiding.

 I feel rather sorry for Russell and hope he makes a full recovery, but I don't think IC is a worthy recipient of anyone's money - unless you're concerned with fulfilling the founders' boyband fantasies: (starts about 1:40) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWACLKaOC08

Alright, then - a writer with a short attention span and an affinity for shit puns (and thank you) :) Edit: I haven't got a lot of free time in the next week or two, but I can definitely find the time over Easter to go over it in a bit more detail with regards to scaling it down in places to...

Not a writer by any means, but I really enjoyed that - felt a bit like Guy Ritchie meets Misfits. (And I genuinely laughed out loud at the Anthony Hopkins line.) Where do I sign up? :D

    archived-videos Gonzo's 2011 film 109

Just watched it and really enjoyed it! The production design was particularly good, and really sold the opening scene to me. Some of the sound effects were a bit hollow sounding - not sure if it's a Vimeo compression issue or what.

    Canon T2i

Well, my first suggestion would be to put your money towards add-ons that a) you know what they're used for and b) are for practical rather than cosmetic purposes. On the camera side of things, more lenses, a decent fluid head tripod and a shoulder rig for handheld work are often the first...
