lighting How was Deep Focus achieved in film Noir and low light situations?

I like these kinds of threads :) The second image that you linked to used another trick that hasn't been mentioned yet. Forced-developing (or "push processing") also increases the effective sensitivity of the film, so you end up with a picture that is brighter, more grainy and with...

    CF card speed question

The transfer rate of those SanDisk cards is given in MegaBytes per second (MBps). The Canon XF100 has a 50 Megabits per second (Mbps) mode. There are eight bits in a byte, so the 60 MBps card has a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps, more than nine times the transfer speed you need (in theory, at...

Final Cut Pro X or Adobe CS 5.5 Production Premium?

While Final Cut Pro X has been vastly improved since it was released I still think Premiere has the edge… and the inclusion of Photoshop and After Effects makes Production Premium a much more versatile tool than FCPX on its own.

Thought people might find this useful… cinematographers Stephen Murphy and Ed Moore spent a day testing every kind of diffusion material they could lay their hands on at Panalux and have produced a series of still and video comparisons. Background blog post HD video comparisons Still...

I'd like to tell you an elaborate story of famous contacts and backroom wheeler-dealing, but… she was the friend of one of the camera assistants - who studies theatre - and so helped the producer with a lot of the casting. Minutes is being screened in Sheffield at Showroom Shorts, in the...

    Music Video Syncing

Some great answers so far, here's another option that I've used a few times before… Obviously the display isn't 100% frame accurate, but it's more than good enough to sync to and allows you to jump to any point in the song. (I've also used an iPad on its own as a slate/player for music...
