Thoughts on MA in International Film Business?

Look at the cost vs number of job opportunities. I'd go with a MBA elsewhere, then specialize in film after graduation. That way if you get knocked down by reality, you can still get a decent career doing something else. Good luck.

Do you really need a dolly?

    Here's the one I shot for $10k: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0963781332 OR http://www.amazon.com/Lexie-Cannes-CourtneyODonnell/dp/B00KEYH3LQ

Do you really need a dolly?

Three, max, at any one time, usually 2. frequently 1. I did the camera. Since the film was more visual than a "talkie", sound was done post. I captured wild sound with off camera mike. If I was was recording a lot of conversational audio, I would have bought along one dedicated sound guy and...

Am I being offered a bad screenwriting deal?

That up front cash is more money than the vast majority of members of this forum will ever see from any of their films. The fact you're in here asking is why you should take the cash, fast, before the deal falls through. The film may not even get made even after you take the cash. Later when...

Do you really need a dolly?

That is BULL SHIT! Get as far away from these people as you can. If you are forking up most of the money for this thing, you need to talk with other people -- preferably those that don't impress you with their gear first. Talk to people that have made excellent low budget films without the use...

Showing Clips of Movies in Movies

Do you find yourself getting laughed at in film festivals? Wait . . . reputable film festivals won't be accepting your film.

Do you really need a dolly?

Exactly. To the OP, you don't need a dolly. You're being sold a bill of goods re: stuff you must have/do in your film. Don't fall for it. What you DO need is a great story to keep people on the edge of their seats and remember to keep the subject kept in focus. Good luck.

    I didn't like Dr. Strangelove

Low budget filmmakers should study Strangelove to death. It was shot on just 3 sets (and one throwaway) and incorporated stock footage. The reuse of a certain piece of music over and over again was used to brilliant effect. And, of course, Sellers in 3 roles (almost 4).

    I didn't like Dr. Strangelove

It's an intellectual thing. Whatever you do, don't watch 2001, A Space Odyssey.

What is the best way to hire extras to make sure they show up on the shoot date?

If you're "hiring" them and they're not getting paid, they're not being hired, they're being asked to volunteer. 1) Ask for 4 times more extras than you need. 2) Arrange transportation for about 1/4 of the ones you actually need (your friend with a van). This is a way to ensure you get close...

film-school How far can you go without attending film school

Once in the Navy you'll get a gist of what it'll be like to become a SEAL -- brutally hard training and development of specific skill sets. Entering film school (especially if you don't) you'll have no clue about the brutally harsh road one travels to get to the top The speedbumps -- massive...

    Production Company Question

Attorneys will tell you you should do as AA pointed out here -- it prevents one legally derailed project from sucking money out of your other projects, completed or not. This is why an "umbrella organization" isn't really wise. Good luck.

Do you need a production company name before you begin making a feature film?

The answer to the OP's question, No. The less time you dwell on this (and your logo) the better your film will be.
