an anonymous wizard creates a youtube channel proving that magic is real and teaching people to be wizards
Idea: perhaps magic can't be channeled by anyone seeking power. only by those seeking purpose.

Spells such as... turn any object into solid gold (can be used to kill people by turning them into gold)
Telekensis of objects and the ability to fly
A spell of constant vigilance. Elimination of need for sleep and feelings of boredom, lonliness, sadness, fear. 100% relaxed focus at all times.

These people will then go out and create churches and convince the world to worship this one real god that performs miracles every day.

In the end I was thinking the magic power could be coming from a diety-like being with the plan to eat the planet. Humans that worship the diety when eaten will become part of the diety and reside within it. they exist in a state of eternal bliss together. (as close to heaven as reality can allow) But everyone else that refuses to worship this god will be destroyed. its a battle of the rapture vs people on earth that want to keep the planet alive. can they kill the wizards and stop the planet from being eaten?

IDK if this idea would actually work though.. I'd need to make the beginning more interesting but I haven't come up with anything.
It's about people that watch the youtube channel and learn magic. its more than just the magic school videos.

I can picture it. The hard sell part is the mixing of wizardry and extraterrestrials. There is an expression I can't recall exactly at the moment that warns against mixing your fantasy elements from arenas that are too dissimilar. There's a reason Cowboys and Aliens failed, and it wasn't money.
I don't know if you've ever seen Chris Fix on YouTube, but he has an "anonymous" car repair channel. He shoots everything 1st person POV or wears a full face helmet. You could do something similar.
Firstly, you would need to establish the rules of the world and how the magic system works. If you shot it as an actual YouTube show, you could use that to (hopefully) generate buzz and maybe get a deal to shoot it as a feature or show. Since the host would be teaching these rules to the viewers, it gives you the opportunity for naturally realistic exposition.
You could always lift the magic system from an already successful source (eg. Harry Potter) or create your own. If you want to have smooth(er) sailing should the project get picked up by a studio, I would create my own magic system. Having researched the occult fairly extensively, I created my own magic system for my arcane projects. I also created my own zombie folklore for the same reason.
I have ideas if you want to hear them.

I didnt think the wizard/diety mix was that strange.
When I think of witches IRL i think of Wiccan and "The Goddess" so to me witches and god are already intertwined.

If you look at sabrina the teenage witch.. their powers come from satan, another diety.

It's good to have a sound system and rules for your world but it's actually not necessary.
Many things in harry potter make little sense, like voldemort and the magic of minestry would both be using truth serum on people given that it exists in the world. find out who the death eaters are and find out if you can really trust snape etc this shit is very elementary and none of it adds up with how the story is written.

I think whats more important is to have a big hook in the storyline, some character or two that is going through exciting life events

I'm sorry, for some reason I thought your diety-like being was an extraterrestrial.
You are correct, it is the life events (forced change) of a character that drives a story. I have often heard it said that audiences will forget your plot, but will remember your characters.
You might want to look into The Green Man for your deity-like power grantor. He can be found in the tenets of Gnosis, Druidism, and Wicca. He was also the inspiration behind the Roman Catholic depictions of The Devil. Might be something to consider. There is also the concept of The Summerland in Wicca to provide inspiration for your heavenly afterlife.

Technically its a planet eating alien but it presents as god to be worshiped and says the other gods are myths
but unless i have a couple compelling characters with storylines theres no point thinking about the rest of the world building

I like the core idea.

"perhaps magic can't be channeled by anyone seeking power. only by those seeking purpose."

So the opposite of modern politics.

"turn any object into solid gold (can be used to kill people by turning them into gold)"

Think someone just released an international multimillion dollar product on this exact premise.

"A spell of constant vigilance. Elimination of need for sleep and feelings of boredom, lonliness, sadness, fear. 100% relaxed focus at all times."

This spell exists, and it's called a "speedball" from what I understand, a lot of people in the 70s used to write screenplays and albums with it shortly before their untimely demises. Not to be trifled with.

"These people will then go out and create churches and convince the world to worship this one real god that performs miracles every day."

this could work in fiction. IRL religion has had this unfortunate issue, where all the various gods just stopped performing miracles permanently at the exact moment the camera was invented. I'm sure that's just coincidence, but it has effected a lot of religions, some fictional like yours, so something to watch out for.

"In the end I was thinking the magic power could be coming from a diety-like being with the plan to eat the planet. Humans that worship the diety when eaten will become part of the diety and reside within it. they exist in a state of eternal bliss together. This sounds like a lot of scale to pull off on youtube, but honestly, I don't have any room to talk there.

I think I figured it out

One of the characters is a high school girl. she learns the spell to turn stuff into gold on her first session.
Turns bracelts, ear rings, necklace chains, etc all into pure gold and goes into school looking like a million bucks.

That night somebody tries to rob her and she defends herself by killing them and turning them into gold.
So we have one character... and even though a bunch of ppl watch the same youtube video live, bc that video is magic different people cant be taught different spells. Thats way more interesting than having 5 ppl all with the exact same abilities or whatever to start off a story
