This is a great topic, I think a director is an artist, technician, and communicator it is all of these things that make a director a director. I think of a director as a visual artist..Remember art is communication :cool:
Hughes, use what you are learning in photography to make your first film, filmmaking and photography go hand in hand. The only thing that came out of film school for me was use of the supply room!!! :lol:
The thing's I wish would change are:
1. lower ticket prices
2. stop serving stale food
3. have the movie start on time (not after 10 minutes of trailers)!
4. stop turning old T.V. shows into movies(ie Duke's of Hazzard)! give me a break!
5. stop repeating the same movies plots over and over...
As hard as it is to break into movie making this seems like a great idea! If we all combine or resouces we could knock hollywood on its a**. Remember people at one time independent filmmakers saved Hollywood although today you would never know it! :grumpy:
Horror is king because hollywood doesn't pay attention to it . And I love that. Rob Zombie once said "Making a horror movie in Hollywood is like making a porn." :D

I never took a screenwriting class but I have found final draft (its a screenwrting program) very helpful.Try to find a magazine called Moviemaker its one of the best mags out on the art of moviemaking.The mic hanging over the set (or the actor) is call the Boom mic .Most sound is done...

Before I got into filmmaking I was a sound engineer. And the one thing that is very important is sound its one half the story.I would invest in some good or excellent sound equipment and an average Camera.
Well I attended NYU film school and didn't like it. Film school isn't what some people think. It not a place were you share ideas with other film students its a place were its every man or women for himself/herself its very I mean very competive. Most grad programs teach the theory of filmmaking...
