How can I write horror without disgust

Horror is really drama, but drama about life gone horribly wrong. I think people don't give horror enough credit for having to be (on some level) believable. I would say focus on that; making stories about horrible situations and equally heinous consequences, and make them as believable as...

    60's - 70's site music without copryrigth

It's also worth noting that you could do all the leg work to track down the "right" track from an independent artist, and they might very well tell you "no", or charge a fee. This is what a "music supervisor" does, because just tracking down musicians and record companies (even if you have a...

    60's - 70's site music without copryrigth

Or, probably the better move if you really need a certain "sound" and have no other options, would be to buy a product like this: https://www.bigfishaudio.com/Son-of-Grindhouse It's basically a sample library. There are other "sample packs" that might fit what you're looking for better, the...

    60's - 70's site music without copryrigth

Um, yeah... Music isn't free to make. Someone automatically owns the music's "rights" the moment it's created, and 99% of the time, the rights holder(s) don't relinquish those unless they're paid. Knowing this, I'm always amazed at people's expectation of being able to find "rights free"...

Can a non-union production hire union actors?

Right on. I probably just recalled that wrong.

Can a non-union production hire union actors?

That link isn't working too well with my mobile device. Did they change it recently? I could've sworn that's what it was when I researched it recently. Is CA a different rate or something?

Can a non-union production hire union actors?

I think the ultra-low budget union rate is $120 a day, just FYI

    Fight Scene Question

Oh, I agree. I'd say most if not all times "real" wouldn't really suit a movie because, movies are at their heart theatrical, and not necessarily "re-enactments". Found footage might be an exception, so a movie like "End of Watch" actually does need a realistic fight scene, which it basically...

    Fight Scene Question

Yes, you are correct. To get that "shockwave effect" of the skin actually being hit, you'e got to make actual contact. Most times the impact is a lot softer than it appears, and the shot is shown in slow motion to help sell it.

    Fight Scene Question

My thing with fight scenes... is that they never look realistic. If you've seen a lot of "real" stuff happen as I have, there's just no way to really compare the two. Real fights are either so quick and violent that they're more shocking than entertaining (like the first in this compilation)...

    Fight Scene Question

Sound effects? Most of the "hits" look like open hand slaps that are being thrown lightly, or actually miss... tbh. But honestly, sound effects go a long way to make it seem real. The ones in slow motion... are in slow motion. Another thing to consider is that the actor receiving the hit...

Which is better Audacity or HitFilm? - Sound editing

This is 100% true, but it all really depends at what level you're working at. If you're not getting paid, and collaborating with other people in the same boat... you're (IME) just as likely to be working in a studio running REAPER, or any number of other DAWs, as you are Pro-Tools. In fact, in...

Which is better Audacity or HitFilm? - Sound editing

That looks like a nice app. I'd get it, but I'm already doing this with AATranslator, so no need for me. If I didn't have AAT, I'd definitely be looking at Vordio.
