    HDR-FX1 Questions???

The camera is going to be under $10k, but the media costs are not an ongoing expense. The P2 cards are reusable and backedup in the same way you would back up any computer data. It is possible that this will not catch on, but I think this or something similar will win in the end, because it a...

    HDR-FX1 Questions???

I saw the new Panasonic HVX200 or whatever they are calling it at CineFest 2005 in denver over the weekend. It is definitiely the way to go in my mind. It is NOT an HDV camera, in the normal sense. It does record to tape, but also records to P2 cards that are pcmcia data cards that you can...

    Running a Cinema

I think it is worth pointing out that this is being done all over the place. Just look at the explosion of small film festivals. A lot of the newer smaller festivals are hosted in non-conventional screening locations. My film showed in an art museum and a bar among other locations. The trick...

    Considering Camera

I've used Arri SR2s and SR3 and they are very solid cameras that work forever. They are built in such a way that they can take and indie movie production beating in stride. I have also used the Aaton A-minima which is a dream for steadicam and handheld shooting, but you can't put a big load on...

    Film School priorities

Some people call it the 45 degree rule. Generally, if you want to intercut between shots you need to have a reasonable change in angle to avoid jump cutting on simliar sized shots.

    Permits

In LA I think permits are $50 per submission for students(they were free until about a year ago). Each submission can contatin multiple locations/dates, etc. So if you get all your locations, figured out before you permit you might only have to pay the $50 once. I don't know if this is the...

    Phantom power

It is the secret essence that powers the paranormal....Not to mention a 48 volt power source for condenser and other active microphones. :)

    Shooting sunsets

Yes, tiffen has a sunset filter. They also have some nice gradient filters that are commonly used for this sort of thing. Also, anytime I shoot anything with the sky in it I always use a polarizer. The big trick is to get the actors to do a good performance before the sun is gone.

    Adr

You can get the plugin for less than $1000. I got it with the ProTools DV toolkit, which if you look around you can get it for a couple hundred less than retail which I believe is $999.

    Adr

ProTools has a plugin that can make ADR soo much easier. It is "Synchro Arts' VocALign Project plug-in" The cool thing about this plugin is it takes the amplitude of the previous track and tries to use time compression/expansion on the new ADR line to make it fit. That way the actor need only...

Need Critique of Plan for Low Budget Feature

Have you considered mixing formats? The dream sequence seems like an ideal chance to switch formats. If this is the style of the script, maybe you shoot it mostly on 24p and then shoot the more vivid imagination stuff on 35mm. Maybe you can use your one weekend to shoot a portion of the film...

    Twilight Zone Style shorts available

Stan, Welcome to indietalk! I noticed you two scripts are about 30 pages each. This usually results in a film that is about 30 minutes, which is the no man's land of filmmaking. Long shorts (longer than 15 mins) are often hard to get into festivals, etc. and are not likely to get...

    My first big screen feature

Is it necessary to buy the camera? You can rent a panavised cinealta for a couple of grand a week(if you work at it). I think you could shoot your whole film on the cinealta and still be under the $66k of the varicam. Also, since the cinealta is around $100k you could probably find several...

    Wish me luck...

Good Luck and congratualations! Not only are you getting an agent, it sounds like you have been as successful already as most screenwriting book authors, so you can always fall back on writing up your 4 act theory! Good luck with this project as well! Joe Hunt
