    Scam! - Warning - Scam!

These scams are common & well known to law enforcement. You can see some information about them here: http://www.nigerianscam.com/ A similar scam is the 'Dutch Lottery', where you get a letter or email saying that you've won a lottery & need to provide some information (usually your bank...

    Foot to Minutes?

I will (gladly) stand corrected. Thanks for the link to the Editor's Guild article.

    Foot to Minutes?

That chart's not accurate. 1 foot of 35mm is 13 frames. 1 foot of 16mm is 40 frames. Both run at 24fps, so 1 sec of 35mm is 24/13=1.85 feet. 1 sec of 16mm is 24/40=0.6 feet. Multiply either number by 60 to get feet/minute.

    16mm camera?

Here's a little more on the 'Crystal Synch' motor. That's an electric motor that's regulated by a quartz crystal. It's important because you want your camera to really be shooting at 24fps when you've got the camera set to 24fps. As Will Vincent said, it can be done w/o the crystal, but the...

iMovie3 or Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express

The camera inserts 3:2 pulldown onto the tape. You then have the option of removing the pulldown for editing, assuming your software or hardware support that.

    What is Super 35mm?

It's also used for a lot of TV production. Super 35 has a true 1.33 aspect ratio, as opposed to 'Academy' which is something like 1.37. Academy crops in from the left a little bit to make room for the optical soundtrack. Super 35 leaves no room for the soundtrack- so it's a popular...

    Aspect Ratio

It's probably best, or at least easiest, to shoot 16X9, & then mask or crop to 2.34 (or 2.22).

What is a "good" computer for editing

On the Mac side, any current Power Mac G-5 will work very well. You'll need 7200rpm hard drives, or faster. A G-5 has an internal bay for 1 SATA type hard drive, so make it a big one. You can also use firewire external drives, but they may sometimes drop frames. You'll want at least 1GB of...

    what editing software is best?????

I use Photoshop for most of my titling. I find that the titles are much sharper & cleaner when going out to DV or DVD than with the built in titling tools in either FCP or in After Effects.

    Newb FireWire question

Sony computers tend to have the 4 pin connector. Most other computers should have 6 pin connectors. The latest "Power Macs" will have both 6 pin (400 Mb) & 9 pin (800 Mb) connectors.

    Music paperwork

Why not pay each other? Simply pay each other the same ammount on paper, and they cancel out. You can even swap checks to complete the paper trail.

Filter Q - for "night" filming

day for night filters I think it's usually done with a dark blue filter. You could try a cirular polarizer, though, which would deepen the shadows without effecting the color.
