New Horror Film seeks your help

Hi Guys,

IM looking for help, with a new production i am working on feature length horror film. We are curently working on product placement, and also crowd funding, and would appreciate, if any of you can help us with this quest. Please find details on the following link

http://www3.indiegogo.com/Wasp-Thefilm

If however, you are unable or unwilling to help with the funding side, that is fine, but can i ask that you like the page for me, as this will help with future funding. Do so by clicking on the like or favourite links

Thank you in advance

A lot of red flags for me with this campaign. I hope you don't mind if I highlight them (just let me know if you do and I'll delete this post).

1.) No campaign video and only a short amount of text- is that really enough when you're asking for $150,000?
2.) Flexible funding campaign. How will you make this film if you raise $5,000 of your $150,000 goal?
3.) Your 'raffle prize' of spending a month onset, watching the cast and crew. Do you have any idea how boring that would be for an observer?
4.) The grammar in your pitch and perks is a little off. Make sure you capitalise properly.
5.) No reference to any of the previous work of the team. Is this their first film? Do they have the necessary experience to command a $150,000 budget?

Just some immediate observations which will hopefully make your campaign stronger, if they can be addressed :)

Your crowdfunding project has been added to the ongoing list thread.
http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=39742&page=4

Your IGG page has several typos.
Might wanna have a couple friends review it a few more times.
And I'd remove the following line: "By contributing, you are helping an independant film maker, reach his goal in life."
It just screams "MAN-CHILD PUBERTY!" :mope:

Do you have any cast or crew talent attached already?

FWIW, I like your premium concept of guarantees for future film releases.
That's a novel idea.

Due to the extreme length this campaign is running for we'll have quite a while to keep an eye on the crowdfunding progress and look forward to an evaluation of your experience at the campaign's conclusion.

Good luck with both achieving your goal and bringing your film to market.

Ray

EDIT:
"can i ask everyone, to click on the following link

http://www3.indiegogo.com/Wasp-Thefilm

and click on the like icon under the main picture. this will help to get our film onto the main page of Indiegogo, and thus help with funding.. "

Interesting.
I didn't know that's how to get onto IGG's main page.

Please take no offence, I wish you the best of luck, but there are many things that put me off ever contributing to your campaign.

1)The spelling and grammatical errors really look unprofessional. The language you’ve used in the synopsis doesn’t really make the film sound particularly exciting or interesting.

2)The fact that this is not a fixed funding campaign completely puts me off, especially when you require so much money. What happens if you only receive £100,000? That’s not enough to make your movie, but you’re still £100K up.

3)Also, the fact that the campaign is running for a year is a turn off. If I were to contribute, I’d forget about this after a month or two. People (myself, especially) have short attention spans. I’d want to see you beginning production next month, not next year.

4)You talk of securing ‘Product Placement’. Is this really likely? What budget do you actually need to make this film? Does this mean that, even if you make the $150,00 on this campaign, the film still wont get made without additional funds?

5)“We are planning on going into self distribution and as such costs will be dramatically reduced.” Really? I’d have though traditional distribution (i.e. having a distributor pay for and do everything for you) would be cheaper than self distribution (where you have to pay for and do everything yourself).
6)I don’t like the idea of the value of perks increasing based on the films you make in the future. What if you never make another film, let alone six?

7)The whole “achieving my goals” thing does sound childish. Sit on benefits? Why not get a job? I don’t know you, so I have little interest in your personal life, goals and ambitions. I just want you to make and awesome film that entertains me.

8)The “ADDITIONAL BONUS” is a bit off… It’s an idea, sure. Offer it if you feel you can. But seriously, an all expenses month on set? That’s got to be an expensive prize to give away? You’ll pay my travel expenses? You’ll put me up in a hotel for a month? You’ll feed and water me all that time? All said, I couldn’t actually take a month off work I was to win. I also probably wouldn’t want to spend a month on your film set, alone and bored. Why not offer a day, or a weekend, on set? Sounds more reasonable to me.

Again, please don’t take offence. This is just constructive criticism. I think if you make some changes to your campaign you’ll have a much greater chance of success.

Best Of Luck!

Thank you for your posts and comments.. i will detail as many answers as i can here..

1.) No campaign video and only a short amount of text- is that really enough when you're asking for $150,000?
I agree, there is no campaign video, the reasons being that i have just finished putting the budgeting together, and have not as yet aqcuired the cast, i have some crew lined up, and am currently in discussions with some stars, with regards to working on this production. as for the text, as time progresses more will be added.

2.) Flexible funding campaign. How will you make this film if you raise $5,000 of your $150,000 goal?
I plan on production in July 2013, i am currently in discussions with Carling, Google, VW, Zippo, with regards to product placement and also have plans to speak with several others, for instance, fuel companies (shell, tesco, bp etc) as well as supermarkets, exterminators, and many other people.

4.) The grammar in your pitch and perks is a little off. Make sure you capitalise properly.
Unfortunately my grammer is terrible, i admit it, and my spelling is also terrible at times, but i am a producing director, not a writter, i will get that looked at once i get someone on board, who can do this

5.) No reference to any of the previous work of the team. Is this their first film? Do they have the necessary experience to command a $150,000 budget?
At this precise moment i am looking for team, i have posts in several film recruitment sites, and the facebook page has a current list of crew. again once the crew is in place this will be updated. as for examples, of my work, there is my youtube channel, which you can access through my personal website.

And I'd remove the following line: "By contributing, you are helping an independant film maker, reach his goal in life."
It just screams "MAN-CHILD PUBERTY!"
Right regarding this, i will remove it thanks.. i am a 35 year old mature student, who is hitting an average of 65-80% grade. I have spent several years on the dole. and decided to do something with my life.. hense this post.

Do you have any cast or crew talent attached already?
an direct answer would be no. however i am in discussions with agents of several B class actors, and actresses, in a hopes to pull them onboard.

5)“We are planning on going into self distribution and as such costs will be dramatically reduced.” Really? I’d have though traditional distribution (i.e. having a distributor pay for and do everything for you) would be cheaper than self distribution (where you have to pay for and do everything yourself).
No.. if i went through a distributor and let them deal with it, i would see maybe 50p per dvd sold. if we do this ourselves, through the use of salesmen whose job it will be to sell. we will see 90% of the sale value. I already have a quote of 16,000 pounds for 100,000 dvd's shrink wrapped, and delivered to my door. this results in us obtaining more funds, which in turn answers your next question.. we can make additional films.

Again thank you for your comments, i hope i have alleviated some of your queries.

Cheers
keith

curious question. You mentioned you're in discussions with Carling, VW etc. How did you manage that with no cast or crew? Also dealing with Blist actors agents with no budget?

I think you could be on to something with your DVD figures, if correct. Use your salesmen to offer exclusive rights of one retailer, say tesco, they may buy x amount off you.

Who gave you the £16k quote?

i made a slight mistake, teh quote was...
You've made a slight understatement.

This entire pre-production of a £/$150,000 project is replete with "slight mistakes." :hmm:

"The actual budget for this film is £ 150,000 and not $ 150,000 we are currently working with companies such as google, carling and such to discuss funding options through product placement."

I don't know what to believe.

Agh, do i haveto be the mean guy again?? lol *

OP:*
You re mentioning the "product placement" in your movie. Why would a company such as ZIPPO and Google would want to deal with an unknown production company with a no budget movie that has little to no potential of being seen, let alone return the investment?*

A. You re an unknown filmmaker
B. You have to budget
C. Highly unlikely that there I going to be a name star attached to you project which means you won't be able to return even an initial 150k invested.*

As far as your statement: my grammar is terrible, but "I'm a director not a writer" attitude won't get you far... What are you doing promoting your movie then?
do you really think you ll gain enough investors to put into your movie to "achieve your dream"?
Thats another thing..Outside of the circle of friends or family nobody cares if you/me/tom cruise ever achieve THE dream. Audience (read NON Filmmakers) wants to take a look at your project, get a feel for what this movie is about by checking out *some flashy images, screenshots of what you ve got so far, and what else can they get besides "thank you".
Don't forget - you are COMPETING against other film projects that are on the fundraising website. Have you seen what their bad ass campaigns have on their pages? There are videos, photos, interviews, storyboards, freaking topless girls covered in body paint that read "click here to donate".*
Your page got a wasp. And some poorly written paragraph. And a huge $10 above 150,000 budget..*

I mean check this campaign:
http://www3.indiegogo.com/nooneknowsfilm

They ve got biographies, photos, video of a director SHOWING his precious experience. And all that for a stinky 7000 budget, a fraction of what you re asking...

I'm just trying to look at your campaign as an outside visitor who doesn't know you and just wants to find a cool project to throw my hard earned cash into..

Good luck on your campaign.

Appleby - Here's my 2p which may help you out. As people mentioned in your other post about idiot agents, I feel your best bet is to try and get a B-List, C-list etc actor on board for a day or 2 filming. I'd suggest someone from the soaps, possibly hollyoaks?

Use those 2 days to film a few scenes, enough to put together a trailer and maybe have a sit down interview with the actor talking about their role.

Take this to the people who you are trying to get product placement for and maybe they'll help out in someway. Also upload it to your indiegogo page.

Just an idea.

Thank you well said.

The way I see it is obviously you don't have your stuff together yet you think people are even going to give you a dollar? You haven't shown ANYTHING, not even a decent cover art to your project to even ask for 5 bucks yet alone 150,000. Where does your budget even come from yet you don't even have crew or talent attached. You should really take the WHOLE year to do research on putting up a campaign. The whole grammar thing reads off as "I don't have my stuff together, but give me your money and I'll do it." Not gonna happen.

Please take this, and use this for the cover picture. I took a measley 15 minutes of my time to come up with that idea and throw it together. If you'd like, I can steal somebody's picture of a wasp from a Google image search.

If you want me to fix the grammar, please don't hesitate to ask. I don't have a problem making things look presentable for you.
